Evektor EV-55 OutbackPublisher: Auctus DelineationsReview Author: Sean McLeodSuggested Price: $19.95/images/fsc/wbicons/pilot-shop-buy.png /images/reviews/evektor/t/image1.jpgWelcome to the Evektor EV-55 Outbackfor X-Plane 10 and 11, created for the X-Plane simulator by AuctusDelineations (AD). Before we get to the aircraft, first a littleinformation about Evektor and AD. Evektor is a manufacturing and engineering company that was foundedin 1991 in the Czech Republic. According to their web site they havebeen working in aircraft design and development since 1992. If youwish to learn more about the Evektor company, check outwww.evektor.cz. There isn't much information about the background of AD on eithertheir web sitewww.auctusdelineations.comor theirFacebook page.Really though, at this point all we need to know is that AD have donevery fine work creating the EV-55 for us to enjoy in X-Plane. Today I will offer to you a review/pilot report of my experiencewith the EV-55 Outback in X-Plane 11.11. The hardware I'm running is a 2015 MacBook Pro 15, 2.5 GHz i7 CPU,16 GB DDR3 RAM and Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB Graphics. My graphicssettings are depicted in the screen shot below; certainly not crankedup but I think respectable considering the hardware I'm using. /images/reviews/evektor/t/image2.jpgFlight control will be provided by a VKBsim Gladiator Mk II controlstick along with a Logitech G502 mouse for 3D cockpit navigation. /images/reviews/evektor/t/image3.jpgOnwards to the flight! I chose to fly from Castlegar/West Kootenay Regional Airport(CYCG)to Abbotsford Airport(CYXX) in British Columbia, Canada. Bothairports have some personal affinity and familiarity as I completed mycommercial pilot training at both airports many years ago. I loaded the aircraft cold and dark and I didn't find itparticularly difficult to fire up the beastie. If you've spent anytime with multi-engine turboprop aircraft, the setup and engine startis the same as any other; external power/battery on, nav and beaconlights on, avionics on, fuel pumps on, hit the starter and move thecondition lever to ground idle. Rinse and repeat for the secondengine. For those X-Plane pilots less familiar with this type of aircraft,AD has included in this package some information to help you on yourway. Located in a subfolder titled documents, you will find somebasic but necessary information in the form of a cockpit layout, mapand pilot checklist. There is some basic aircraft specificationinformation as well. Contained in the documents subfolder is a paint kit for anyonewishing to create their own special paint scheme for the Outback. Prior to starting the engines, I had programmed the Garmin G530with my flight planned route of CYCG to CYXX, via YDC-Princeton VOR,at a VFR cruising altitude of 16,500 feet. Now with the flight plan active, condition levers to flight idle, Imaneuvered for departure to the button of runway 15 at CYCG. Selecting flaps down once, landing lights on, and away we go!Applying the power I noticed that the Ng/RPM indications reachedredline but did not exceed limitations. Acceleration is good and oncein the air, aircraft handling is docile and reassuring. Positiverate, gear up, flaps up and with the aircraft weight set at theX-Plane defaults, the Outback climbs around 2000-2500 fpm at 130KIAS. /images/reviews/evektor/t/image4.jpgOnce at planned cruise altitude, the Outback settles in at 210 KTASor 180 KIAS with recommended cruise propeller setting of 1950 RPM. Iset the power levers to ~670 EGT for max cruise speed. /images/reviews/evektor/t/image5.jpg So with the autopilot engaged and GPS NAV selected, it was time formy inflight lunch! Actually, I broke it out during the climb out ifyou pay close attention to the aircraft instruments. Ahhh! Apilot's life for me! /images/reviews/evektor/t/image6.jpg /images/reviews/evektor/t/image7.jpgOne particularly clever feature implemented by AD in this aircraftis a virtual clip board. You can find this tucked alongside theinstrument glare shield. Click on it, and it smoothly transitions tothe middle of the screen. On it you will be able to select betweentwo aircraft configurations, cargo or passenger. With eitherselection, the aircraft cabin is configured with seats or cargo items. You can also select all the doors on the aircraft, opening or closingthem as you wish. Well, after almost an hour of air time it's time to descend forarrival at CYXX. Flight idle and down we go; the great thing aboutturbine aircraft engines being that there is no concern about shockcooling the engines as you must take care with piston poweredaircraft. Arrival and landing at Abbotsford was uneventful, landing on runway19, props into beta and the Outback slows down quite easily to taxispeed with minimal use of the wheel brakes. Altogether a very enjoyable X-Plane experience with the AuctusDelineations EV-55 Outback. Lastly, there is a selection of six paint schemes provided inaddition to the default livery.
