/images/notams/notams20/turb0405.jpgWe would like to announce our departure from the simulation/sceneryindustry. Thank you to everyone for your support over the last 7 years. Ithas truly been an amazing ride, and we have made many friendships andpartnerships over the years that we value greatly. As many of you are aware, the aviation industry is a small part ofour business, so we feel that we need to focus all our attention onthe larger part of our business and projects. You never know, we may meet again. Source

/images/notams/notams20/orbx0504/terraflora-01.jpgOriginally developed by Turbulent Designs, Global TerraFlora v2 hasbeen designed to provide realistic, HD-quality trees for P3D versions4 and 5. Based on the original ESP version, which was successfully portedover to X-Plane, Global TerraFlora v2 transforms your world to providegreater detail, more realism and enhance your simulationexperience. Whether you're taking flight over densely populatedforests or soaring around lush islands, Global TerraFlora v2 willensure trees of the world look pleasing to the eye in all scenarios. Adiverse range of tree-types has been included to replace the defaulttypes and all colored to better match the default ground scenery. This all-new version vegetation texture package also now allows theuser to customise the the textures to their liking. /images/notams/notams20/orbx0504/terraflora-02.jpgFeaturesMultiple, user-selectable, color sets per season. These are generally Vibrant, Desaturated or Dark which is a similar coloring to the original Orbx tree coloring. All 'green' seasons have additional vegetation texture variants for a larger and more varied color palette. Spring & Summer broadleaf trees have two color variants per tree. Fall broadleaf has two variants.Custom mip-maps on conifers to allow for greener trees up close and darker in the distance, this is particularly noticeable in the hard winter seasonA Selectable snow-coverage amounts on Hard Winter trees. /images/notams/notams20/orbx0504/terraflora-03.jpg /images/notams/notams20/orbx0504/terraflora-04.jpgSource

Review: Turbulent Designs TerraFlora XPBy Michael Hayward /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-02.jpg /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-01.jpgBefore (left) and after (right) images showing the effects of TerraFlora /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-03.jpgTurbulent Designs are known for theirhigh-quality airport sceneries across Prepar3D and X-Plane. Recentlythey dropped their all-new tree-enhancing add-on TerraFlora for bothP3D and X-Plane 11. In this review, I will take a close look at theX-Plane release of TerraFlora to see what it brings to your simulatorand if it is worth picking up! What Is It?TerraFlora XP is a scenery add-on that replaces all default andOrbx Scenery trees in X-Plane with better-looking HD textures thatbetter match the environment they are in. These are all in 4Kresolution and really stand out when compared to the default X-Planetrees both in detail and realism. InstallationInstallation of TerraFlora XP is simple thanks to Orbx Centralintegration. Last year Orbx teamed up with a number of flightsimulator developers to distribute their add-ons through the Centralplatform. This means installing TerraFlora is just like installing anyother Orbx add-on by just clicking on one button and the software doesthe rest. /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-04.jpg /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-05.jpgWhile the add-on does not come with any additional documentation(not that I was expecting any for a texture replacer!), Orbx Centraldoes include a few paragraphs explaining what the add-on does and howit works. Flying With TerraFlora XPWith TerraFlora XP, you can definitely see a difference withworldwide scenery both on the ground as well as in the air. The worldlooks much more realistic with treetops and forests no longer lookingbright-green, something that X-Plane default trees suffer from. Flying low-altitude VFR has been transformed thanks to this!X-Plane trees by default are generally of low resolution and lowvariety in order to keep frames high. TerraFlora completely changesthis by giving you more variety of trees that better suit theenvironment that you are flying in. From the coniferous forests ofNorway to the palm trees of the Caribbean, you simply enjoy a viewthat looks much more like the real thing. /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-06.jpg /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-07.jpgFortunately, there is no discernable impact on FPS, at least not asfar as I have noticed. By only changing a texture while leaving thedefault tree models, your simulator runs exactly the way it was beforehaving this enhancement add-on installed. One thing that Turbulent Designs also mentions on the store page ofthis add-on is better color matching to the scenery environment whencompared to the originals. As mentioned above, default trees do nothave much color variation and are green from trunk toleaf. TerraFlora changes this with much more natural colored treeswith brown trunks and branches topped with green leaves. This maysound elementary for a tree, but it's something you certainly donotice with the add-on installed. Unfortunately, one thing it does not cater for is seasonaltextures, but that is mainly down to the X-Plane platform itself nottaking winter into account. This means that for all days of the year, trees will appear in their lively summer state. /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-08.jpg /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-09.jpgYou also notice areas too where default trees are more prominentthan modded. This is because while TerraFlora replaces most treetextures with its own, it does not replace everything. However, whenit works, it works well, but when it doesn't...you can notice it. ThisI feel is a limiting factor of the add-on as you'd expect it to be acomplete texture replacement, especially coming from veteran scenerydevelopers Turbulent Designs and Orbx. While it's not enough for me tokeep people away from this add-on, I would certainly like to see morevariation added in future updates. Overall, I certainly enjoy the change of scenery, and it certainlydoes benefit your simulator. Compatibility With Add-On SceneriesOne thing that TerraFlora does is mix with add-on sceneries thatuse the default X-Plane tree set. As this add-on replaces the defaultsimulator texture library by creating its own, any add-ons that usethe default tree set is also improved on by this add-on. This Iespecially like as I use a number of third-party sceneries of varyingquality, many of which use the simulator's trees. TerraFlora improveson them too, making even the most generic of airport and city add-onslook ten times better. /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-10.jpg /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-11.jpgAn example I like to use is the Lappeenranta scenery by TDG. Thisairport is located in Finland, and is surrounded by forest on most ofits sides. TerraFlora certainly brings this airport and city to lifewith its new high-quality textures, and changes the treescapeentirely. Opinion And Closing RemarksOverall, I'm quite impressed by TerraFlora XP. While I wouldn'tcall it the perfect tree replacement add-on, it certainly goes a longway. Your X-Plane world comes to life with forests transformed by thisadd-on, and it's something I would certainly recommend. I've really enjoyed flying low over some beautiful looking places, another example being Tromso in Norway. Head on over there with thisadd-on installed and you'll see what I mean! When mixed with X-Plane's already good default OpenStreetMapscenery and lighting, you're onto a winner with this one. /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-12.jpg /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-13.jpgAs mentioned previously, if I had to say one negative, it would bethe variety of trees it replaces - I would certainly like to seemore. This add-on is still relatively new and I'm certain that we willsee an update or two coming our way in the near future. If you're the kind of person that enjoys flying at low altitudes orcreating realistic X-Plane screen shots and videos, then I wouldcertainly recommend this add-on to you (especially for defaultscenery). Turbulent Designs TerraFlora for X-Plane is probably as goodas you're going to find at this time. The Technical BitMinimum Requirements:Orbx Central 4As long you have Orbx Central 4 installed, you can run TerraFloraXP on any system that runs X-Plane 11 with minimal frame hit. It'scompatible with Windows, Mac and Linux. /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-14.jpg /images/reviews/terraflo/t/terraflora-xp-15.jpgReview PC Specs:Windows 10 Professional6th Generation Intel® Core™ i7 6700K Processor16 GB RAMNVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1660 Michael Hayward Purchase Turbulent Designs - TerraFlora XP from Orbx

Beautifully edited and color matched by Greg Jones, FriedmanMemorial Airport includes 715 km2 of 60 cm per pixel photoreal for theairport and valley. This mountainous area also includes 1ID5 LukesWood River Medical Center Heliport for those wanting to take a littlemore time to explore the valley. /images/notams/notams18/turb1221/ksun-3.jpgKSUN will feature buildings and vegetation textured by Russ Whitein high definition and stunning detail. As attention to detail is key, the designers like to treat everyairport area as a feature area, built with exploration in mind. Notonly will the airport look stunning from your aircraft, but it willlook even better up close and personal. /images/notams/notams18/turb1221/ksun-2.jpgThe entire airport area is modeled as a mesh, giving theopportunity to create a sloped runway, different levels in terrain, aninsane amount of detail with some cool weather and lightingeffects. Effects include realistic oil, reflective puddles during thewinter and rain, icy runways and taxiways during snow and even thereflections of lights in puddles at night time.Custom modelled buildings will provide a nice buffer between theairport and autogen. All of the custom buildings are highly detailedwith plenty of variation, giving those urban and industrial areas anice natural look. /images/notams/notams18/turb1221/ksun-4.jpgSource
