Airport StuttgartPublisher: AerosoftReview Author: Joshua MooreSuggested Price: $21.99/images/fsc/wbicons/store-buy-now-button.pngIntroductionStuttgart International Airport is theprimary international airport serving the city of Stuttgart, thecapital of the state of Baden-Wurttemberg. This region is a majormanufacturing industry and is the home of Mercedes-Benz and Porscheamong others. Christened after Manfred Rommel, the former mayor andson of the famous German general Erwin Rommel, the airport is thesixth largest in Germany, seeing over eleven million passengers passthrough the airport in 2018. While it does not see any long-hauloperations to North America after Delta terminated their Atlantaservice in October 2021, it still serves as a prominent airportserving much of Europe and vacation destinations, with the busiestinternational route being to Palma de Mallorca. Aerosoft'srepresentation of Stuttgart Airport is one of the most up to daterenditions having just been released in December of 2021. /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-1.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-2.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-3.jpgFirst ImpressionsThe installation process was both simple and easy to do, usingAerosoft One which manages all of their products through one singleinterface. Aerosoft has for me a very noticeable aura to their airports interms of textures, models, and overall feel of each of their airports, and Stuttgart is no exception. The moment the scenery is loaded intothe sim, one can easily tell it is by Aerosoft, thanks to the texturesand coloring of the airport. This can sadly be a disadvantage as whenflying between two Aerosoft airports, the environment feels noticeablysimilar at each. I will now go into greater detail in each section anddiscuss what I like and dislike about this airport. /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-5.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-4.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-6.jpgExploring The AirportStarting off with the terminal, the model quality is quite good asis expected of a developer like Aerosoft, and with a detailed airsideinterior it gives a good 3D feel to the experience, an almost standardfeature thanks to more powerful graphics cards and optimization. Itdoes not however stand out as having a wow factor in terms of themodeling and texture work. The other buildings on the airport, including the Lufthansa Technik hangars, GA terminal, cargo ramp andother areas are modeled as well, but to a slightly lower standard, butperfectly acceptable. Various ramp clutter added a nice touch, whichhelped bring the airport to life and gave it the typical used lookmost airports have which was greatly appreciated. The rest of the buildings included on the north side of theairport, including the Bosch Parkhaus, are quite a bit lower in termsof quality, and let the airport down when viewing it from any otherangle than at a distance during approach and departure. Whilecertainly not bad, it would be nice to see the extra buildings receivesome TLC to improve their presentation. The highway which runs adjacent to the airport in X-Plane iselevated on a platform of sorts, which is completely inaccurate, andsadly Aerosoft did not change this, leaving the highway to rise abovethe barrier wall and looking quite out of place. I hope this can beadjusted and allow the highway to sit where it does in real life, which would help the look of the airport when taxiing for a runway 25departure. /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-7.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-8.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-9.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-10.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-11.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-12.jpgTexturesWhen it comes to textures, it is quite a mixed bag for thisscenery. The main terminal, jetways and ramp clutter are allbeautifully textured and look outstanding from every angle. Thishowever does not carry over to the GA terminal, which has a lowerquality texture and looks blurry. The same can be said for theParkhaus, of which parts look like only a solid color with noweathering, and other buildings just adjacent to the airport terminal, having low quality textures as well. Yet even with the low quality textures, Aerosoft did a stellar jobwith the ground markings, with the same being said of the taxiways, ramps, and runway textures. These textures are very sharp and lookincredible, which again makes them stick out compared to the lowerquality textures seen in other places. The worst texture for me was the airport ground texture, whichsadly has the same look and texture resolution as my Airport Stuttgartadd-on for FS2004. I really think the entire airport could be enhancedand brought up to the next level with something as simple as a higherresolution ground texture. This single factor to me lets the airportdown more than any of the building textures. On the ground thistexture is partially hidden by the volumetric grass, but on approachit is sadly quite noticeable and gives this airport a look of havingbeen released in the early 2010s. If this can be revised to a higherresolution, then I think the scenery would be much improved! /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-13.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-14.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-15.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-16.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-17.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-18.jpgLightingThe lighting around the airport is quite standard for most X-Planesceneries, with volumetric lighting on the ramps, terminal, andsurroundings. I have no complaints with the lighting at all and Ithink the screen shots show off quite well how Stuttgart looks atnight. /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-19.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-20.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-21.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-22.jpgConclusionIn summing up, I think Aerosoft's Stuttgart could become a greatdestination to fly to with a bit of work. However, I think thetextures let down an otherwise good scenery. The lack of higherquality textures distracted from the quality modelling and dragged theairport down for me. The ground texture used was the lowest resolutionI have seen in X-Plane for a while, and I really think if Aerosoftupdated that single element, the entire airport would be improvedgreatly. For $21.99, it is priced accordingly when compared to otherX-Plane sceneries. I would recommend this airport to anyone looking tofly to their favorite holiday destination, or wanting to add Stuttgartto their collection, but I would note the texture shortcomings thisscenery has. /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-23.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-24.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-26.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-25.jpg /images/reviews/aerostut/t/aerosoft-stuttgart-27.jpg/images/reviews/aerostut/title3.jpgJoshua Moore Purchase Aerosoft - Airport Stuttgart for X-Plane 11 See other Aerosoft products for X-Plane
