/images/notams/notams21/bali0329/bali0329.jpgThe Ngurah Rai International Airport, named after an Indonesian war hero, has grown to become the third busiest airport in Indonesia. Thanks to arecent overhaul, it is equipped with entirely new, modern internationalterminal facilities. The surrounding area of the airport used to be pureforest/jungle, but has since been built densely with housing/hotels andnumerous small buildings. The airport serves many international and domesticairlines, and the runway extension out to the sea has made it possible toaccept heavy airplanes, such as Airbus A330, Boeing 747 and 777, amongothers. /images/notams/notams21/bali0329/bali1.jpg /images/notams/notams21/bali0329/bali2.jpgFeaturesCustom aerial image for airport and surroundingCustom made ground details and textures for aprons, taxiways and runways for realistic depiction of the layoutDetailed models of airport buildings with PBR materials.Realistic looking surrounding scenery with custom, Bali-style buildings.Airport layout and terminal updated to reflect the late 2020 - early 2021 situation of the airport, with new buildings, such as the new south control-tower.Animated jetwaysDynamic night-lightingOptimized for Performance /images/notams/notams21/bali0329/bali3.jpg /images/notams/notams21/bali0329/bali4.jpgPurchase Aerosoft - Airport Bali for MSFS 2020 See other Aerosoft add-ons for MSFS 2020

Airport BaliPublisher: AerosoftReview Author: Paul MortSuggested Price: $26.99/images/fsc/wbicons/store-buy-now-button.png /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_1.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_2.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_3.jpgHello and welcome to an in depthreview of the recently released scenery of Bali Ngurah RaiInternational Airport for X-Plane 11 by Aerosoft. WADD, also known as Denpasar International Airport, is located insouthern Bali, 13 km south of Denpasar. It is Indonesia'sthird-busiest international airport. InstallationInstalling the package is simplicity itself. After unzipping thecompressed folder 'ASD-047', you will find two individual folders. One is for the main airport scenery and the other for the staticaircraft (more on this later). Place both folders into your customscenery directory, and then (with Notepad, or similar), edit yourScenery_Packs.ini file, making sure that your main airport scenery haspriority over the static aircraft entry. /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_4.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_5.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_6.jpgFirst ImpressionsIf you've read any of myprevious reviews, you will know that I'm a fan ofAerosoftscenery, so with that said, let's jump in and see if this one lives upto the pedigree of their previous releases. /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_7.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_8.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_9.jpgOn opening the scenery, I find myself all alone at Gate 53, farfrom home in a place I've never been to before. Straight away I'maware that this is not your usual concrete block internationalairport, but rather a fusion of pagoda style buildings with thefunction of a modern airport. The row of repeated traditionalbuildings are aesthetically pleasing and a far cry from JFKInternational. It seems strange to see modern passenger bridgesemanating from the modern parts of the terminal interspersed with thetraditional ones, but the strange thing about it though, is it worksbeautifully. The main runway of Bali International extends out into the bay, which is a deep blue and green in color and looks totally inviting! In their wisdom, Aerosoft have providing a separate file for thestatic aircraft and in my opinion this is a great idea, as it allowsthe user to have the option of having either the standard Aerosoftstatic aircraft, the user's own, or none at all. The numerous groundtextures - apron concrete, taxiway markings, plus the lush green grass(which is abundant around the airport), look and work really well. /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_10.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_11.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_12.jpgSurrounding ScenerySomething often forgotten by scenery developers, is that life goeson beyond the airport walls. All too often a fantastic scenery is letdown by an abrupt and sudden cut off of life! Luckily for us though,Aerosoft have taken this into account. As I elevate my view out ofthe airport proper, a whole extra dimension opens up in front of me,with hundreds of varied buildings, roads and carefully placed foliagecoming into view. These features extend to the headland and island inthe bay. The roads are well placed with free flowing traffic betweenthe mainland and the island. Checking against Google Earth, theplacement of the whole scenery is very accurate. To top it all off,the mountains in the distance are particularly pleasing to theeye. /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_13.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_14.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_15.jpgOrtho TexturesNot being a great fan of ortho ground textures, I'm pleased toreport that Aerosoft have kept them to an acceptable level, althoughon the roundabout near the harbor bridge, there are fully animatedroads with traffic on one side and ortho textures of a road with flatcars on the other. As an amateur scenery maker, this makes no sense,as the creation of an extra animated road would be a two minutejob. Please Aerosoft...ListenI've said this before about Aerosoft sceneries and I'm going tokeep saying it until something is done about it - we need people! It's all well and good producing a beautiful scenery with fantasticsurroundings but we need 'life' to convey realism! Correct me if I'mwrong, but so far, I have yet to see another life form (other thanmyself) in this scenery, which to my mind, makes the sceneryincomplete. In the humble opinion of this reviewer, an airport is aliving, thriving environment, run by living people! /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_16.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_17.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_18.jpgGeneral ImpressionsAn overall view of the package reviewed here is that; even with itbeing devoid of human life, it is still a very pleasing scenery tolooks at, and one which contains enough airport detail to satisfy themajority of users - due in part to its wealth of custom buildings. Asmany of you know who read my reviews, I like to explore sceneries withX-Plane's built in free-view and roaming camera options. This enablesme to find all the interesting features of a scenery - features whichare often missed during a flyby. As well as the good stuff, there areusually a few blinding errors in most scenery packages (misplacedroads, objects projecting into buildings etc.), but I'm glad to saythat so far, I have found none with Aerosoft's Bali. Package CostThe price for this package works out at US$26.99, £19.30,AUS$34.52, which compares favorably with other sceneries on themarket - I have seen certain 'average' looking sceneries costing waymore than this. By keeping their prices competitive, Aerosoft areassured of their sceneries remaining popular, as long as standards aremaintained. /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_19.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_20.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_21.jpgThe Good PointsI would consider the good points or highlights of this scenery tobe the following: an attractive location which is well laid out, theairport is faithfully recreated in both style and texture, hundredsof custom made buildings of the airport and surrounding area grace thescenery, no visual errors have been spotted so far, the ortho groundtextures used are subtle and not overpowering, taxiway markings areaccurate, ground textures look good, and finally, the purchase priceis competitive. The Not So Good PointsVery little to report on this front except to say, the lack of 3Dpeople (even static) is sorely missed in Aerosoft's work. If we asamateur scenery makers can employ them in our creations, why can't theprofessionals? /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_22.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_23.jpg /images/reviews/bali/t/b738_24.jpgRatingTaking both the good and bad points listed above intoconsideration, I award a score of 9.5/10. This is the highest scoreI've given to a scenery and it is well deserved - well done Aerosoft. The question we initially asked at the start of this review, was wouldthis scenery live up to the pedigree of previous releases? Theresounding answer must be yes, as it is a scenery well worth investingin. I hope this review has given potential purchasers a true insightinto Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport. /images/notams/notams17/bali0815.jpgPaul Mort Purchase Aerosoft - Airport Bali for X-Plane 11
