Mega Airport Madrid ProPublisher: Sim-WingsReview Author: MrYorkiesWorldSuggested Price: $32.99/images/fsc/wbicons/store-buy-now-button.pngHello there guys, my name isMrYorkiesWorld, and this is going to be my short, but hopefullyto-the-point review of Sim-Wings (published by Aerosoft) Mega AirportMadrid Professional which was very kindly provided to me by my friendsover at FlightSim.Com. It's an absolutely fantastic piece of scenery, and one I was really excited to review, so let's get to it... /images/reviews/megamadr/t/madrid-terminal.jpgSo a few videos back we flew into Madrid for the first time on thechannel with Ryanair flight 3187 from Manchester. It was a little windy and we did have a last-minute runway changedue to the weather, however we did manage to get a glimpse of theterminal buildings and the surrounding areas of the airport. Theairport itself being extremely large, did cause our frame rates to dipbelow 21 FPS at some points, but overall I was very impressed withwhat I saw. Now, this Madrid scenery in question from Aerosoft covers LEMD,which is also known as Madrid Barajas Airport, as well as some of thesurrounding area. LEMD is the main international airport in the regionof Madrid, and it's extremely detailed and looks fantastic in thedaytime. During the evening, things start to look even betterstill. SODE jetways are supported with this scenery which is great, andthe aerial imagery actually covers an area of around 400 squarekilometers, covering both the airport itself, and the surroundingareas. There is also the option to configure the airport to use north orsouth approaches if that's something you wish to change, and adetailed AFCAD is also included which contains the correct parkingpositions and approach procedures. I found this to really help withthe immersion and made the scenery feel more authentic. One of the great things about this scenery is that according to thespecial features list, all of the code (BGL files) are compiled usingP3D V4 SDK, making it perfectly optimized for P3D V4 and onwards. The only issues I did find that could contradict the above are thestutters and frame rate issues that I experienced when landing at theairport. This happened even when I reduced some of the optionalelements of the scenery during the install procedure. As many of you will know from my previous reviews, I have a prettybeefy system with an Intel Core i9 9900k and a GTX 1080TI, but evenwith this, I still struggled with frame rate issues at times, occasionally going below 25 FPS. Not a huge issue, but definitelysomething the developers should look at. Taking into consideration how large and complex the airport isthough, I'd have to say this might have something to do with the lowFPS, and it might be the case that there is literally nothing you cando about it. Overall though, the scenery works well, and looks great,so that's literally just me being critical about the performance. The config tool included with this scenery also allows you tocontrol dynamic lights by enabling or disabling them depending on yourpreference. I personally prefer to have them enabled for extraimmersion, since I also use a third-party lighting tool called BlackMarble from Chris Bell. I decided to take quite a few different shots of the evening timein this scenery because in my opinion it looks amazing (better thanwhen totally black). It really gives you the feeling you're there inreal life, and it's great when you're departing or arriving in theevening. /images/reviews/megamadr/t/madrid-sunset.jpgAll gates and stands in the airport have functional dockingsystems, and the airport terminals themselves also have objectsvisible through the windows which I found to be a nice touch (theseare probably more noticeable at night). One thing I would like to see in this scenery though are moredetailed ground textures in the surrounding areas, such as where thestatic model aircraft is located just outside of the airportgrounds. Although this is modelled and looks great, you can see thatthe ground textures around it are a little pixelated. Perhaps thedevelopers could improve on this in some way. Again, this is me beingcritical and it's not something which I feel is essential in order toenjoy the scenery. /images/reviews/megamadr/t/madrid-display.jpgMoving on from evening to night, I found the lighting to be good, but there where areas which I felt could have been improved on. Oneexample being that I found the runway lights weren't as bright as theycould be, but this might be due to my own set of in-sim configurations(you could try modifying this with the Global Lights Configurator fromOrbx, or a similar tool. I also observed that the night lighting looked rather synthetic andunrealistic once it was fully dark, and not as good as it looked inthe evening time around sunset. However, this is not something thatwould stop me buying this scenery, and it may just be down to my ownsettings as previously mentioned. So, as I like to keep the written element of my reviews as short aspossible and to the point, how would I rate Aerosoft's Mega AirportMadrid Professional out of 10? Well, with everything taken intoconsideration, I feel the scenery is worth a solid 8.5 out of 10, withthe only reason for not making it a 9 being down to the performanceand lighting issues. As mentioned, I am quite critical when reviewingthese sorts of products, and I try to be as honest as possible. Thanks for reading!
