FSX Graphics Nightmare

Hi All, I am new here, thank you for the site and if this is in the wrong place I apologise! I thank you all in advance for your help.

I have been using FSX for many years and have various add on's from PMDG, Quality Wings etc. I have been using the Super Tweaker tool for many years primarily to inject the basic of enhancements to FSX. Recently, Microsoft in their wisdom released the creators update and various updates after that which killed FSX. I have done a fresh re-install and am now getting terrible graphics problems.

FSX runs ok, however, if you move from the fuel config, flight planner or another screen and back to the sim part you get un-rendered plans, psychedelic repeating graphics or nothing at all just a blank grassy looking screen which can only be cured by a complete restart of FSX. This usually happens on the new and excellent QW787. however, other installs do similar things.

I have dialled back settings and been trying to get this to disappear but seems incurable, this has included getting FSX to rebuild the config file, preview DX10 is worse jumpy graphics.

I am at a loss completely as to why!

My spec is,

GTX 970 Ti Graphics Card.

Intel i5-7400 3 GHz

8gb Ram

Samsung Evo SSD.

So you did a complete reinstall. After the reinstall, but before you used this tweaking tool, did FSX then look and run normally?

Second, in your FSX.CFG, I see two instances of this:

You need to comment one of them out, or plain delete one of them.

I have no idea of how this tweaking tool works, but it might be an idea to contact the manufacturer, as he says:

And then there's the remark about Windows 10. Neither the Creator's Update, nor any other updates before or after that, has done anything adverse to my system. If that really was a real problem with Windows 10, I and everyone else would have seen it - and not everyone has. Those that have seen issues have been and are very vocal, but when you don't see issues you tend not to participate in the discussions. To sum up:

1. There is no conflict between Windows 10 and FSX.

2. There are issues on some systems that have Windows 10 and FSX on them.

3. Guess where the problem logically is then? No prizes are offered.....

Well it's funny you should say that, my friend always digs me for running an old game, little does he know how relevant it remains.

Yes, I did a complete reinstall of FSX which seemed to cure the issue, the game does run now but as before I am getting graphics errors when moving from one screen to the other.

I may try to manually tweak the config file and try that after a fresh cut of it.

First of all you have installed FSX to 'Program Files' which is a no-no. More later. Second: you do not have SP1 and SP2 installed? There were so many things wrong with your fsx.cfg that I decided to just fix them and post the result. Be sure to back your fsx.cfg (rename 'fsx.cfg.bck' and then 'ok' (press enter) when warned). The only thing that I must ask you to do is to set the FSX res to the 'default' Monitor res (or all bets are off). Also, create the 'DEFAULT' (start up) flight using C-172 for best results.

So after trying this, I get the same issue after running the new config, although it seemed much better. After configuring fuel on the 787 I get the tared, jump and self repeating graphics. FSX locked up at this point.

You did not tell us what you did to old fsx.cfg. Did you back it up? Did you 'copy/paste' the fsx.cfg entries from my post into a new Notepad file? Did you change res to 'Native Monitor Res'? Did you TRY to create a 'default' (start up) flight using the C-172? I have this line in fsx.cfg. SITUATION=C:\Users\Chuck B\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files\C172 Rnwy26 KSNS . This sets up a lot of parameters when you first start FSX. It's VITAL. From there you can load any/all other flights and FSX will function BETTER.

But you should install FSX here: C\FSX (outside of 'Program Files (x86) ). I have mine installed: D\FSX and don't need to worry about anything 'FSX' installed in C drive as that will ALWAYS be the same and you do not have to worry about those files. Hang in there. Will figure out. You just have to 'start over' (sort of) to fix things. A little bit of work but nothing that mose of us have already done (HAD to!).

Edit: I believe that 'jump' is ENTIRELY due to texture loading (ie: Non-Default Airport) that might just have corrupt bgl's, etc. Nothing due to fsx.cfg. Nothing in THERE will cause it to 'jump'. Except maybe this line: 'SITUATION=FLIGHTS\OTHER\FLTSIM' WHICH IS 100% TOTALLY WRONG. DELETE!!! that line and create a flight when you get to opening screen when you start FSX. So...start at DEFAULT airport, and start with C-172. You might just be surprised.

Here is my own FSX.CFG. The tweaking "tools" I have used are primarily Kosta's tweaking guide, supplemented with bits and pieces I've picked up here and there.

The system is an Intel i7-7700K at 4.2 GHz, 16 GB of 2133 MHz DDR4 RAM, an Asus Z170-A motherboard with the latest BIOS upgrade and a nVidia GTX 960 graphics card with 4 GB of DDR5 VRAM. This runs FSX Acceleration and P3Dv4 under a fully updated Windows 10.

With the present setup I do get artifacts over complex cities and airports. But, thanks to earrings at Christmas, my local Secretary of the Treasury has approved of the purchase of a nVidia GTX 1080Ti with 11 GB of VRAM plus 16 GB of 3200 MHz DDR4 RAM at the end of this month......
