PAULCRAIG
It's easy to convert bmp files to dds format using Martin Wright's DXTBmp software, just load the texture into DXTBmp, flip image & alpha & save as dds DXT5.

jandjfrench
From Martin Wright's data regarding the DDS format of CFS3: "One feature of this total rebuild is that they have gone over fully to DDS (DirectX DirectDrawSurface) textures. These are standard across a wide variety of games because they are the native internal format of DirectX and can be handled much more efficiently by the display code." Chuck Jodry
The bitmap format that works in game is 32bit or Targa , very high resolution and not FPS friendly but these can be rendered in game. DDS files are 25% of the size and the norm but not the only option Best CJ
