whitegn
To answer your first question, no, I don't know to change the workings of .gau files. But . . . this GPS98 gauge of which you speak. Would that be ACS-GPS98 written by one Alain Capt, and available here in the FS98 Gauges section of Flightsim? I am using that gauge (or family of gauges) with no problems in FS2004 on a Win 7 machine.
jgf
.gau files are essentially .dll files, you may be encountering some arcane permission issues in W7 (didn't install in "Program Files" I hope) with accessing them

The FS folder is often best to be excluded from virus scans. Mark Daniels
