How to convert FLT files

Hello, I know this question must have been asked many time.

Have only just joined the forum

Is there any way to convert FLT files to wmv or MP4?

Any help would be appreciated.

You mean turn a .FLT fil e into a movie? I doubt it.

A flight (.FLT) file gets created when you are flying and you save the flight.

But that doesn't save your entire flight.

It savs the aircraft's position, heading, speed, and things like autopilot settings, autopilot on or not, same for other buttons or switches.

It also contains the fligfhtplan, if you were flying with a premade flightplan.

But not the entire flight from start to finish.

It doesn't save the part that came before.

Just your plane, current position, etc. Enough that if you load (or double click the .FLT file) fsx loads the situation as it was when you saved it.

It is used if after two hours of flying you are tired and it's time for bed. You save the flight (creating a .FLT file). Next day when you are rested you can continue where you left off.

To make video's of fsx you need to start fsx and one of the recording softwares for it, and then do a flight while the software records what you do. Very different stuff.

FLT files in the FSX world are just INI files. You can view them with a text editor.

If you want to record as AVI you can use FRAPS program. It's free, with limitation that you can only record 59 seconds at a time (plus there is a water mark='Recorded with Free Fraps'). The registered version has no restrictions or watermark. The only limiting factor is how much hard drive space you have available as 3 min video clip will produce a 4 Gb movie clip. But it converts to Wmv at 1/10 size by use of editing program such as Windows Movie Maker.

So by then using Windows Movie Maker (it's Free and comes with Windows) you can piece the clips together and make a movie of any length. Fraps works perfect with FS9 and FSX. Not much of a learning curve there. Just assign a key to start/stop recording (I use 'INSERT') and that's about it. Win Movie Maker has a slight learning curve. But not hard to learn in an hour. Don't be shy, go for it, and FIRE IT IN!
