*Finished: Course setting clickspot - For FSND Rojas Lucena 747 VC especially.

Hello,

This is just a short introduction to the next post.

I recently created a simple knob that changes the Course setting. I did this as something to install in planes that had no Course knob yet.

It worked well, but it had a disadvantage.

Installing my CourseKnob in the Virtual Cockpit (VC) would mean you have to disable another gauge to make room for it.

For example to disable the Master caution light.

I found a simple solution to that.

I made a gauge that does not show as a visible gauge in the VC, but that DOES make it possible to change the course.

No more need to disable another gauge.

In the next post I explain how to create it and install it.

The gauge was created for the FSND Alejandro Rojas Lucena VC.

Why did I create this gauge:

In the default Boeing 747, in the VirtualCockpit (VC), you can change the course setting by scrolling over a spot on the Horizontal Situation Indicator. On the spot where the course is displayed.

Alejandro Rojas Lucena (FSND) created a fantastic addon VC for the 747.

But in this VC it is not possible to change the course this way. And there is also no other way to adjust the course, like a knob.

To fix this I created this gauge. All it does is add two clickspots to change the VC.

I explain below how you can make this gauge easily, and place it in the FSND 747 VC to add your clickspots.

After installing my gauge in your VC you will be able to set the course in it, the same way you can set the course in the default 747, by

scrolling on the displayed course.

Just so you know, the gauge that displays the horizontal situation in the FSND 747 VC is not called the HSI, it is

called the Multi Function Display (MFD) instead.

My gauge wil only add two clickspots on to that MFD. The gauge itself is not visible. So view of the MFD is not obstructed by it.

To install my gauge, all other gauges can stay enabled.

Below is an image of where the clickspots will end up.

Only thing is that, because my gauge and the MFD are in the same area, the tooltips for my gauge won't show up.

But you will see the mouse cursor change when you are in the right spot to change the course.

I will now explain how to create this gauge easily, and then explain how to install it into the FSND Boeing 747 VC.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~A little word of WARNING: Use my file at your own Risk!

-----------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First create a folder on your desktop. Name the folder:

fsnd747_crsclick_abc13

((Filenames and filetypes are important.))

In the folder you place an .xml file (below) and an image (below also).

First the image.

Save the following image to your desktop. It will be a .jpg file.

Open the image in 'Paint'. Then save it as bitmap. With filename:

crs_click_abc13_background.bmp

And if needed, resize it so it is 100 pixels wide and 100 pixels high. (It may already have the correct size though.)

Then place that image in folder "fsnd747_crsclick_abc13" that you created.

crs_click_abc13_background.jpg

Now to create the .xml file.

Create a notepad file in the folder "fsnd747_crsclick_abc13" that you created.

Copy the text from the Code-box below, using copy-paste, and paste it in the notepad file.

Save the notepad file.

Then rename the notepad file. To:

crs_click_abc13.xml

NOTICE THAT IS A .XML FILE. (not .txt any more)

1 (>K:VOR1_OBI_DEC)

1 (>K:VOR1_OBI_INC)

Ok, You now have the folder: fsnd747_crsclick_abc13

With in it the Image: crs_click_abc13_background.bmp

And also in it the .xml file: crs_click_abc13.xml

To install it, copy or move that folder into your

..\Simobjects\Airplanes\\Panel

folder.

Now adding the gauge to the VC.

Find the panel.cfg file of the FSND 747 VC airplane.

Make a backup copy. (Always make a backup beore editing a panel.cfg file.).

Open the file panel.cfg and scroll down to the end.

Add the line at the bottom of the [VCockpit03] section. That is the VC.

You will need to change the XX in the following line to the next available number.

So if the last gauge you have in the section now is gauge12=

then you add this line as gauge13=

To add to [VCockpit03] -section:

gaugeXX=fsnd747_crsclick_abc13!crs_click_abc13, 680,20, 50,50   //Course Clickspots.

------------------------------------------------------------------

And you are done.:)

There are no visible "buttons" in this gauge. Only the two clickspots.

Because it is installed on top of another gauge you don't see the tooltips.

But you will see the "hand" on the MFD change to a hand with aplus or minus on it.

You can put it in other planes as well if you want. If you put it in a panel you may see the tooltips.

------------------------------------------

Use this at your own risk of course!!!

I have it working fine in fsx acceleration. (Windows 7-64 bit), but I can't give any guarantees.

--------------------

Enjoy!
