showing gauge to Jim Robinson.

I decided to post the gauge, so others can create it for themselves and use it.

The gauge I showed above Swaps the Active and Standby frequencies on the radio. On Com1, Com2, Nav1 and Nav2.

Why did I create this gauge.

I always take care to set up all the needed frequencies well before the descent to the airport down from cruiselevel.

ATC on Com1 Active -- Tower on Com1 standby.

ATIS on Com2 active.

RW 08 Left on Nav1 active -- RW 08 Right on Nav2 standby.

One VOR on Nav2 active -- Other VOR on Nav2 standby.

Then during approach I switch frequencies as needed.

But I do not want to have to popup the radio panel each time I want to swap a frequency.

So I wanted a small gauge, to add to the main panel, that only swaps the frequencies.

This gauge has 4 buttons.

SwapCom1 -- SwapCom2 -- SwapNav1 -- SwapNav2

Very simple.

I'll show below how to create it and place it in the panel of the Default Cessna C172.

----

First create a folder on your desktop. Name it:

swap4frequencies

In the folder you place an .xml file (below) and an image (below also). Filenames and filetypes are important.

Save the following image to your desktop. It will be a .jpg file.

Open the image in 'Paint'. Then save it as bitmap. With filename:

swap4frequencies_background.bmp

And if needed, resize it so it is 200 pixels wide and 100 pixels high. (It may already have the correct size though.)

Then place that image in that folder "swap4frequencies" that you created.

swap4frequencies_background.jpg

Now to create the .xml file.

Create a notepad file in the folder "swap4frequencies" that you created.

Copy the text from the Code-box below, using copy-paste, and paste it in the notepad file.

Then rename the notepad file. To:

swap_4_frequencies.xml

NOTICE THAT IS A .XML FILE. (not .txt)

0 (>K:COM_STBY_RADIO_SWAP)
Com1 Swap

0 (>K:COM2_RADIO_SWAP)
Com2 Swap

0 (>K:NAV1_RADIO_SWAP)
Nav1 Swap

0 (>K:NAV2_RADIO_SWAP)
Nav2 Swap

Ok, You now have the folder:

swap4frequencies

With in it the Image:

swap4frequencies_background.bmp

And also in it the .xml file:

swap_4_frequencies.xml

To install it, copy or move that folder into your

..\Simobjects\Airplanes\C172\Panel

folder.

Then add the gauge to the panel, by adding the following line to the panel.cfg file of the C172.

That is also in your ..Simobjects\Airplanes\C172\Panel folder.

((Always make a backup beore editing a panel.cfg file.))

Add the line at the bottom of the [Window00] section. That is the main panel.

You will need to change the XX in the following line to the next available number.

So if the last gauge you have in the section now is gauge54= then you add this line as gauge55=

gaugeXX=swap4frequencies!swap_4_frequencies,        185,350, 65, 19 //above plaque

There are no real "buttons" in this gauge. Just 4 spots in the image that look a bit like buttons, and a clickspot on each one.

But, it works fine.

You can put it in other planes as well if you want.

I made this gauge, but to get it working I had some much needed help from Jim Robinson. Thanks Jim.

Enjoy it everyone!
