nadlzfw
I've noticed several times a situation where the IAS drops to zero in flight. It happens for about 10-20 seconds and then returns to normal. It always returns to normal after a short time. It happens on some aircraft and not others. It seems like it always occurs in situations conducive to icing, so I wonder if the pitot system is collecting ice. The aircraft in question all have a pitot heat switch in the panel, and heat is on when this occurs. Is this pitot icing, or is it something else? Do aircraft require something in the aircraft.cfg or .air file to enable pitot heat, or is a switch on the panel all it takes to turn on heat? Thanks! pschlute
That does sound exactly like pitot tube icing. What aircraft does this happen with?
nadlzfw
Last night on departure from KIAG in clouds in my T-33. Also occurs in several other aircraft, previously a few days ago in Alenia M346.
Tushka
Happens for me occasionally too in extremely cold winter days, pitot heat freezes and the airspeed drops to zero for quite a long time before recovering, aircraft is Tu-154M and the pitot heat systems are on. From what I've heard, if you're using an external weather program, the weather program can cause bugs with the pitot, but I'm not too sure.
