Long delay after hitting End Flight in free flight

When I am in free flight and hit the End Flight button, there is a long delay before the Free Flight selection screen appears, and this delay seems to be longer the longer the flight has been.

I could assume - just thinking off the top of my head - that FSX is creating a log of some sort, or something similar. Is there a way to turn this feature off?
