I have been using the "MSFS Legacy Importer" a freeware tool that converts old FSX aircraft into the current MSFS format. Worth a google search if you want to try it out. I can get a few aircraft to show-up using this tool but some have missing cockpits and/or the flight model is stuffed.
Thankfully I DID manage to port over my FSX vintage Real Air SF-260 which flies well, stalls and spins. Much nicer to fly than the default aircraft IMHO.
Always remember to switch between MODERN and LEGACY flight model if you do port over an earlier aircraft. I keep forgetting!
Good luck

There is a TBM "Mod" somewhere on the official forum did you try that?
I tried flying the TBM once (without the mod) but the handling was so unrealistic I went back to flying my FS9 vintage SF-260.

Hi sorry for late reply - I've also been experimenting.
I can't seem to replicate my earlier wind layer experience. I thought I had saved it in the custom presets but it's not there now. I wonder if their most recent sim-destroying update was responsible.
I have been recording some comparisons between the MSFS wind/gusts and those in FSX. I'll post a link once I've uploaded to my YouTube channel.
For now I've just switched off any wind/gusts in MSFS as it appears incapable of producing anything even remotely realistic.
As for the flight modelling in MSFS - it's a real step back in simulation. Awful just awful.

This is between St. Maarten and Virgin Gorda. There is supposedly a light wind at the surface.
I generally avoid flying around islands because it just doesn't look right. Can this be improved upon?

You can make multiple wind layers. You have to click on "Add Wind Layer". The new "layer" appears over the previous so you need to click and hold to move it up and then set a new wind layer.
I was having the exact same issue as you - ie the sea looks rubbish unless there's a strong wind. This solved it and I saved the preset for when I fly over water.
The ground wind is set around 20-25kts for a nice looking wave effect and the next layer is something more manageable.
Hope this helps!

I have thousands of hours in all of the MSFS versions over the years and I have never had as much trouble controlling the airplane when trying to land. I don't know if the controls are too sensitive or the wind effects while landing are exaggerated. When I try to yaw left or right the I almost lose control of the aircraft and the same thing happens with pitch. My questions are:
Am I the only one having this problem?
Does anyone know what is causing this?
How can I fix this?
Thanks form a frustrated computer pilot.
Very much agree with you regarding the response of aircraft during the landing configuration in FS2020. It isn't your fault or your aircraft.
It appears that Microsoft/Asobo haven't bothered (or ran out of time..) to code the dynamic effect of wind properly. They appear to have "hard coded" some gusts and turbulence (which is not at all realistic) but otherwise your aircraft is effectively flying in a vacuum.
Maybe they should rename it Microsoft Space Simulator 2020. Whatever they call it - it isn't a FLIGHT simulator yet.

I haven't bought it yet. Thought I'd wait a while and see what bugs cropped up before spending money on it.
I'm a bit concerned that the developers may have spent most of their time optimizing the wonderful looking exterior scenery and weather and left the aircraft flight models to the last minute.
We still use FSX for nav training at our flying organisation. It is very effective in that area (with photographic scenery and ASE).
I have met quite a few younger students who "learnt" to fly on FSX and have unfortunately developed a habit for over-controlling when they fly with me during the early part of their training. It takes a while to train that out of them!
Not too sure whether this version of the sim would be as effective a training aid. That beautiful scenery and weather is very distracting!

Unfortunately this is a known bug and they still haven't fixed it. See the official forums for more info.
