The only VC I ever saw and didn't make me want a 2d is the Aerosoft early 320/321 series and when you can still use ATC and the flight planner of MSFS. Someone sat and actually play with the planes during design back then.

2d makes it easy, just that simple and Aerosoft proved that it can be achieved with a little extra work and imagination.

In my experience some of the loss is down to elevation issues. Over the years I have incorporated a lot of FS2004 airport scenery (mainly MAIW but also other stuff) into FSX. It is well know that there are slight variations between the elevation data used in FS2004 and FSX and elevation related issues can be compounded even more if using a terrain mesh add-on.

 

WRT to my experience - I have found that many of the FS2004 stuff works OK but 'dis-appearing' arrows are fairly common. In most instances I have resolved the issue using Airport Designer Editor (ADE) to add a 'airport backround' poly and/or a 'landclass flatten' poly.

 

I have also used this method on a number of FSX native sceneries.

 

Sometimes, the issue can also be caused by unconnected taxi links - again I use ADE to check for this.

If FSX can't find the panel folder stated in the aircraft.cfg of the model, the A/C won't show.

I think the advice in post# 7 by maybe5454 would probably give you what you want in one download. It should contain the different models and textures.

I use FSX + SP1 and 2 box normally but I also have the FSX_SE and the installer from Rickoooo did it on both both at the same time and they both work fine. No too shabby.

You should have a visual on the throttle panel shift + (number) if they are or not. Use shift+/ to arm.

To me it looks like you are losing or lost your DVD drive, if I am understanding "The DVD drive chatters away incessantly ...".

I bought a second DVD Drive and from that I can install FSX_MS ever since. My first one got the chatters half way through installations not from the beginning like yours but I didn't wait and bought the second one instead. Dirt cheap nowadays.

Also, your DVD disks for FSX_MS are gold now. Do not jeopardize them for any reason.
