  1. Currently running MFS but would like to try DCS. On changing peripheral assignments needed to fly DCS would my assignments when returning to MFS be saved?

    CRV

    Do you mean MS Flightsim?

Yes, nothing will be changed. In both you configure the peripheral assignments, (I assume you mean buttons and axis), in game and not in Windows.

Unless you use a third party tool T.A.R.G.E.T, but in those you make your own profiles and has nothing to do with any game itself.

I have never had a game that messed up another controller wise. [emoji4]

Minor exception, in some Steam games you need to unplug certain controllers to have a console controller usable. But again, will not interfere with controller settings in other games.

    Cheers!

  2. LOL!

This was actually a fun read. [emoji4]

Well, if you want some challenge in the fighter department, I suggest you download DCS, and try to land the Hornet on the Super Carrier. Free to play for two weeks. The Standalone version from the website though. Non-Steam.

All modules can be tried, (Do it sequentially!!!), for two weeks twice in a year with a six month grace period.

Check out some vids, the flight models are just awesome.

As for shutting down you pull the the throttle levers all the way back and use the fingerliftd into cutoff. Same as with getting the afterburner on. No clue how to to that in MSFS as I didn't bother how to figure out how to do it on my Warthog. Zipped around in it myself for a couple of hours until I got bored and tired of the altimeter getting f***ed up. No clue if it's bad coding or a bug.

The thing on the HUD is called the flightpath marker. And yes it is a FBW aircraft so it's easy to fly like the Viper.

Go try the Tomcat in DCS, or the Mig-19/15 21. Seems more like your thing. And bring your force feed back stick!!! [emoji1]

  3. As a Steam user from day one, I have had no issues at all. I don't even bother to clean out the community folder, as I keep forgetting before I update.

Steam is just a shortcut, before the MS "launcher" kicks in. Everything is the same. The updates comes from MS, so yes, same time. So when you launch, the sim wants to update, not Steam.

  4. I will never understand the fun in using a fighter plane in a non-shooting flight simulator.

It's like shaking hands with gloves.

Well, if there any real fidelity in the avionics etc, I wood actually understand it from an interest to learn the non weapons systems/navigation in the whole world with quite nice graphics.

Now, I have actually bought the MB-339, but that's just a placeholder until they release the real module in DCS, and in support of India Fox Techo of course. [emoji4]

But I haven't really checked out it's capabilities in MSFS yet. (Noticed I can't seem to turn NWS off) . DCS is just so much more fun. Next year maybe, with real support for helicopters.

  5. For those who may not know, AMD's FidelityFx is implemented in the latest release of FS2020. I went from 20-22 FPS on medium settings to 30-35 FPS on Ultra settings with my Nvidea GTX1060 by making a couple of changes in the graphics section, The biggest difference was changing the rendering to less than 100. That activates the FidelityFx component. So the resolution is left to match the monitor(s) and the rendering is decreased. I am one happy camper with this change. Worth trying it out. Here's some info: https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/radeon-software-fidelityfx
Thank you! Will try that. [emoji4]

  6. Since you are going to be running 4K monitor, I would suggest AMD Radeon[emoji769] RX 6800 XT and AMD Ryzen[emoji769] 9 5900X CPU. 32GB of 3200 low latency ram. At 4K, you need internet speed greater than the minimum spec by a substantial amount. I have 78MB/s but I am running an easy monitor resolution. You may need 100 MB/s? Another thought, you might want to wait until Nvidea comes out with a 4080 GPU??
    One needs a 100MB/s???

    That's 800Mbps. Sure you didn't mean 100Mbps? [emoji848] [emoji6]

  7. Oh, no doubt!

I think what were saying is that MOST of what you'd fly in FS probably flies very close to the real item... it's just that fighter jets seem to be difficult to program the dynamics for in FS, because they kind of are beasts that are quite different from nearly all other planes. If a good solid dev team is making a fighter that you love, take the jump and the good team will probably deliver a quality product.

It's the less or low experienced dev, trying to take on a fighter, with limited understanding of how fighters actually fly, and how to make it fly like the real fighter in MSFS, that's where you see "risk" in whether you get a fighter that even flies somewhat like a fighter, or if it just flies fast and "weird"!

As the core simulation improves, this may become easier for low experience devs to create a fairly reallistic flying fighter... maybe.

I absolutely agree. Very well written.

But I don't think one can have this fidelity in MSFS currently. But you have it in other sims. But of course, in those other sims, you don't get to travel around the world. [emoji4]

So, to my original point, why would one pay top dollars for a module that doesn't have the fidelity just to zip around. When one had the drone view for free?

Well, actually I don't really care. I have bought one module for MSFS. The MB-339. That's only a place holder why I wait for it, the "real" fidelity version, to be released in another sim. [emoji4] You can even have a version of it now, totally free. But you cannot zip around the world yet. [emoji6]

  8. sfojimbo:

There is such a thing (as a UFO) it's called the drone.

    Yep

The drone will travel at 10,000 miles per second and go to earth orbit altitudes; it has unlimited fuel and remains invisible all the while. If that isn't a UFO simulator, I don't know what would be.

Actually, you're right. I misread. I read "a drone" instead of "the drone".

    I stand corrected. [emoji4]

  9. They're just another plane. If you want to do bigtime sightseeing, like checking out the west coast of Mexico, or if you want to see the Rockies from way up high a modern fighter is the way to go.

I bought the Eurofighter, simply because it was the cheapest at $15.00. It is tough to land, It would be helpful if there were a way to assign the speedbrakes to a switch or key, things get quite busy about the time you need them.

I got the Eurofighter up to 1,285 kts IAS which is 1,479 mph at sea level and over 2,000 mph at 60,000 ft, but mph isn't the way speed is viewed by a pilot, Jets use mach number.

    http://www.tscm.com/mach-as.pdf

Fair enough. My point was obviously that if you really want to learn "a fighter" and it's systems etc. you're better off another place, but it's only dollars? We'll i guess that's fair. Hard to land? That I don't believe. Guess I have to check that out myself. [emoji4]

  10. It seems like the people who are having problems with the Updates and Hot Fixes all purchased through MS Store? Is that true?

Last year before the game came out I saw several comments on YouTube by people who said they had problems with other games through MS Store so I purchased through Steam and it's been pretty seamless for these updates.

    Just wondering...

No issues. Seriously old computer. Purchased through Steam.

    Cheers!

  11. It should be fine, but realize, its known add-ons cause issues after the updates. You need to empty your community folder before updating it. Even if you just copy it to another location on the drive on your computer. Its a must step before updates.

How many ghz is your computer Prociessor? You fail to mention that. How many cores? otherwise should be alright.

Is using a mod manager for MSFS not a thing? [emoji848]

I can highly recommend Sedenion's Open Mod Manager. Might be a little cumbersome to setup, but when you have it going, it's super.
