No, have no time to mess with things like that. Before Feb 2022, when my house went under water in a flood and computer lost,  I did have local scenery, a guy in Lismore did up a very nice Lismore (YLIS) airport with real world (RW) pics of hangers etc. But haven't had time to go find it and download it again.

I agree. I also have no time to mess up my flightsim. I have FS 2004 all default and is really more optimised than fs 2002.

Good day mate! I always use all default. No scenery download. I love fps.

20231223 Saturday 23 December 2023. YBBN Brisbane International. Learning Air Traffic Control (ATC), the default in-built, so-called Artificial Intelligence (AI), as it existed way back in 2001 when FS2002 was built and released. Rather good, interesting to just sit in a corner of the airfield and watch the planes come taxing along ready to take off from runway '1', being 010 heading, and listen to the radio. A good learning experience. Combining this with the paper manual I have from FS2000 and the FS2002 electronic manual, plus the Rod Machado in-built lessons, it's a good education about ATC.

Attached is a collage of 13 screenshots. Numbered from top left, reading left to right. (Need to tune Brisbane Ground to hear taxiing traffic, or Tower to hear taking off and airborne traffic.) Cessna N19896 red, landed. Landmark 4453 takeoff, American Pacific 1249 (IFR to Essendon) [DeHavilland Dash 8], American Pacific 2447 (IFR destination unstated), Orbit 9383 (IFR destination unstated),American Pacific 6479 (IFR Melbourne).

Mad Did you download any scenery?

20231214 Thursday 14 December 2023. Hello world, as mentioned in thread 'FS 2002 Graphics in middle', post Dec 14 'G'day boys. Am 'back in the saddle again'. ... ', am starting this thread to share my new adventures. 1 video and 15 still screenshots (taken with handheld camera, screenshot quality isn't good). At the risk of annoying the FlightSim.com gods ('act now, seek forgiveness later') have done for my first time, uploading the .mp4 video file to the Files section of the FS site. As I did a 58 second video of the old, retired, 1981 Mazda 929L car that I'm using as my sim cockpit, didn't seem possible to upload the vid to a post, but could upload it to Files. Put it in 'FS2002 Misc.' category. I just took 4 screenshots from the vid as .jpg, and am posting all 19 .jpg's here. (I did reduce the filesize of all for proper Internet upload.)

After suffering a life-threatening flood in Feb 2022 that flooded my house to the ceiling, and going through the stress of looking for and buying a new property, this time 2 hectares (5 acres) in the country, flood free, am finally able to settle down and enjoy this flight sim hobby. It has and does give me great satisfaction, joy, peace and community fraternity (via this FlightSim.com website). Intend to post here my new journey. First fire up of the sim was 14 Dec 2023, the default Meigs, flew two circuits, didn't crash! Next will be Brisbane International, Australia, with AI traffic and ATC.

Enjoy, and if interested, say 'g'day mate'!

(By the way, by pure coincidence, when doing the video, on the local community (non-commercial) radio 'COW FM' ('Casino's Own Wireless' 107.9 FM, we're cattle country here, was a great Aussie soft-country singer Graeme Connors, with his 1996 (27 years old) hit 'A Road Less Travelled', very apt. So that afternoon was a halycon moment here in the Kyogle hills!)

G'day boys. am 'back in the saddle again'. Installed FS2002 on an old laptop Compaq Presario with Win Vista Home Edition on it. Amazed, it all just worked, great smooth frame rates. Just did my second flight from the default Meigs Field, Chicago.

Welcome back to fs 2002 world my friend.

If you know what to do, FS 2004 runs just fine under Windows 10.

I tried and did not get success, install everythink and even I using no CD patch, no way work.

Hmm, glad to hear FS2002 still lives, at least for some people. I haven't got my sim back up and running yet, need to build a new sim PC. Because I'm cheap, and got FS2000 and FS2002 for nothing (got the original boxes, all more or less pristine), and also philosophically, like the others in this thread, I just want to fly, not fiddle, and imagination is better than eye candy, and also the fact it runs on old hardware and operating systems, low demand on resources, it's good enough for my needs. So perhaps I'll keep it and not chuck it in the bin. Would like eventually to get into group flying, so was thinking to buy off e.g. eBay, FS2004, but unsure if can still connect into e.g. VATSIM and fly with others. Any thoughts guys on the lowest end / simplest /cheapest way I could get into group flying on the major sim networks?

FS 2004 I think is not running in Windows 10, otherwise I was thinking maybe buy, but very satisfied with 2002

Yes Mad, I m very satisfied. I almost never use addons, aways fly with defaults. No crashes, no messy, high frames e fun. I can tell you my addons sometimes are dispensable

Forgot to say I have also fs 98 xclusive edition in cd, decent pristine

“I value imagination more than graphics…. I like the 2002, …it’s light and very good…” . These words precisely describe what I feel too. Very lightweight sim that has minimal hardware requirements and never crashes…

FS2002 has off course some drawbacks, but it’s fun. More flying, and generally less fooling with settings. It just works.

Exactly. I bought three addons on ebay and I have original box FS 2002. Never Crashes you are right.

  11. I have a regular laptop, hp620, although it supports graphics on high, I always value decent frames. I put it on medium, I click extend textures, textures and lights at dusk, I don't know why I feel satisfied with the graphics like that, is it just me?
I think I value imagination more than graphics on high, even when I put autogen on maximum, I had a drop in framerates in which I prefer to keep my frames high. When I put it on the dense or normal setting (which I use), Complexity Dense (I use it that way too) it's light and very good.I like the 2002, I'm satisfied, I have along with that I have addons bought cheap on ebay FStraffic 2002 from just flight, abacus Airbus fleet and the A380. The frames are wonders this way.

  12. A friend has a full install of FS98 along with extra aircraft, scenery, and a flight planner, on a flashdrive. As work keeps him on the road quite a bit he pops this into his laptop for recreation.

I bought it cheap on ebay, now I have fsnavigator 4.7 for flight plans and two planes that I downloaded from flightsim, the only thing I can't do (due to lack of knowledge) is to install scenarios. still, i'm happy with it and my fs2002. I don't need a computer from the galaxies and it runs fs 98 in a virtual machine with windows xp running happily and beautifully.

  13. I've have two versions of Fs98 installed on the Vista computer! :pilot: The original one and Golden Wings!

    Christopher Tarana

seems like people are very interested in super graphics and stuff. I have the original 2002 and three more original addons and I'm very happy with them. I decided to buy the 98 and emulate it in a virtual machine with Windows XP (also original). Best of all, we don't need machines from the last age of galaxies to have fun.

  14. Hello everyone, I actually use fs 2002, but I recently bought fs98 on ebay for a very cheap price, product from xplosiv and installed the patch shop converter and FS Navigator 4.7 and to my surprise everything works wonderfully, except the 3D graphics due to I be using a virtual machine with Windows XP.

I must confess that I am very satisfied and I manage to make a normal flight planner with this software, I was surprised because I configured the joystick and I am quite happy. I know there are lots of addons on archive.org but I like having the cd and physical stuff. My fs 2002 and addons plus fsx I bought everything cheap on CD.

Does anyone else use fs98? Of course, what counts here is nostalgia and fun, honestly without graphic pretensions.

  15. Hi all:

As you can see, I have just posted a thread about an issue I have with Flight Director 99. And as I don't know how it will become, I thought maybe would be good to see what is working for you.

So, for those of you who enjoy trying to get the best of your FS98, (regardless of opinions about how outdated it is, etc.), what programs do you use to add more realism to it, regarding the ATC environment/flight planning?

I have read Radar Contact (2, as I think that's the version for FS98) is the real deal, but it seems there's nothing about it out there.

I have also read Proflight 98 might do it for me, althought the reviews about it seem to be a little dissapointing, and anyway I haven't found a way to buy it (the couple of offers I found don't deliver to my place, Canary Islands).

So, what applications, (or combination of them), work for you, being it freeware or payware?

Thanks for your help and regards.

Hi, IM using FS navigator 4.7 you can download free here:

    http://fsprobrasilserveroficial.blogspot.com/2011/08/fd2004-fsnavigator-47.html

Do not worry, the software is all english and the file inside are the keys. easy to use. Require some study about couple hours. In my channel youtube I use this software with fs98 . The channel is Daniel J Monteiro and there you can see the use in real time.

  16. I wrote to Just Flight about issues I had installing their Flying Club package in W10 (I rather like the included Tomahawk) and they wrote back with a "fix" which circumvented the problem :)

At night, I did what you suggested and to my surprise the "fix" solved the problem and I'm very happy! Now I have Abacus Airbus fleet, Abacus A380 and FS traffic 2002 (all 3 cheap CD box with manual on ebay),all working perfectly as long as I don't install the scenery that comes with the A380 Toulouse. Which, by the way, only adds some Airbus hangars. Thanks a lot for your tip.

  17. I am 47 years old, and I had contact with flight sim 22 years ago with my father who used and loved fs98. Now I use the 2002, with free addons I got here on flightsim and two payware, abacus airbus fleet and airbus a380 and I say: They cost me on average 4 pounds each, they run on a modest computer and I even bought fs traffic which unfortunately doesn't run on windows 10.

The big advantage I see is that my system HP620 Windows 10 64 bits, 4 gb ram Intel core Duo 2.2ghz, SSD 256gb is more than enough to run with FPS at heights and graphics at high. I swear to you that I tried FSX on an i5 that my son has but I really didn't see the fluidity expected or that impressed me.

I keep looking for more addons on ebay. But I see that I will end up buying a machine with Windows 7 (this one came original with 7, but I took advantage of the license upgrade in Windows 10)

If I buy addons, and some don't run on Windows 10 due to the anti-piracy protection they had, as in the case of Just Flight products, I'll have to go back to Windows 7 when I buy another machine.

But look, this flight sim 2002 is really worth it, I'm very happy with it, even though I also have the original FSX. This one I really stopped because I find it very poorly optimized and poorly made even for my son's i5. I always enjoy a coffee or beer and have traveled the world with fs2002.
