  1. I'm a retired 71yr old Vietnam Vet. When I returned home in 1972 the latest and greatest ELECTRONIC game on Earth was Pong. I was 23, married, and now and then when we could afford it we would go into the local bar and sit down at the console, put in our quarters and play what WE thought was the most astounding and unbelievable thing ever! Try it now and you'll understand our awe and wonder.

Fast-forward TEN years and they had invented and I could own my very own Commodore 64 and play a far more astounding and immersive text game called Zork.

Yesterday I sat down and read posts on this very forum from well-intentioned folks whinging about FS20's clouds not having enough layers, some trees being 'too big' and horror of horrors, the photo-realistic game scenery was just not realistic enough and color-balanced for them to be happy. I do NOT know whether to laugh or cry.

Asobo has gone and modeled the whole durn planet and I can sit on my half-moons in front of a COLOR screen in a comfy chair and fly a whole bunch of different airplanes anywhere on the globe I so choose and control time, the weather and my surroundings. How can I, or anyone else for that matter, NOT be simply filled with the awe and wonder of it all. Now try and imagine what people will be whinging about 50 years from now from their entertainment.

Sit back, relax and marvel in the experience you ungrateful whipper-snappers. :D

I’m a retired guy in his sixties and I approve this message.

  2. Hi Hal and Art_P,

First, Hal, you blew my mind. I didn't know about all this.

So then I went in and did what you said, and I saw that Select Heading Bug is in fact already set, with the standard Shift+CTRL+H. It is under Instruments & Systems > Flight Instruments.

Thus, why isn't it working? Then Art_P answered the questions -- the ICON A5 does not have an autopilot.

    Stanley

    Hi

Set it up anyway, for other craft and for other commands as you need them. It woks for any other controller.

Honestly - you really need a joystick and throttle if you don’t have one to play this, or at least a joystick like the t16000 with a built in throttle and twist handle rudder and 4 sets of three buttons on the base that you can use for selecting and changing the heading and vertical speed indicators.

The way I have mine set up is to have things

  3. Some of us aren’t happy we are not getting a proper flight sim so this is the place to express it. Some want to say the world could not be better. Threads have titles so each user can determine if the content is something they wish to read. This is now the second thread with a title making it blatantly clear the type of discussion you can expect.

Don’t open the thread and we’ll all be happy! lol

Yea but these aren’t constructive criticism - they are just rants against a game people have not actually played and a game people have confected in their heads rom cherry picking other rants or the problems a minority say they are experiencing. And this confected game is one that bear little or no resemblance to the one the rest of us are enjoying to various extents.

Today I took off from a short runway in Cyprus in a Cubcraft. Swapped to a Daher and flew autopilot to Bierut abd down the coast to Tel Aviv. Then I switched to a Cessna and flew over Temple Mount before switching back to the Daher and flying down the Gaza Strip, across the Sinai and landing at Cairo International.

Every inch of the route looked awesome and the autopilot didn’t kill me once. On top of that there was a new, extensive patCh and a huge Japan upgrade. All this in a game that has not been out two months.

Look, if people get more from other flight sims then that’s fine. Play them. I’m not in those forums berating them for looking crap and not having the entire world to fly over for just £60. I’m enjoying this one. And this one is what it is - and what it is not is the nightmare a minority are inventing by cutting and pasting snippets from posts by people having specific issues.

As Triple A releases go, this one has gone pretty well. There’s no indication that it will die in a year. Third party developers are flocking to make money from it and the developers are demonstrating an ongoing commitment.

  4. Why, o why did you all rush in where angels fear to tread to be amongst the first to buy into MSFS?

I'm sure you all followed the beta testing comments of the status of the game? But...

you wanted to be amongst the first to play!

No sympathy & no pity party for those, relatively informed, but decided to dive in anyway!

    Mea Culpa indeed!

Eyes wide open, you decided to buy into the Holy Grail....

LOL, BTW, how on earth can it be called a scam??

I rushed in because I wanted to get bak into flight sims and I knew from reviewers I trust that it would meet my expectations for a first release. And it has exceeded them. I can think of many initial releases of Triple A games that have been way, way worse than this. One or two that probably merited the term “scam”.

Sure, MFS is flawed, but I’ve got 150 hours of enjoyment from it so far. My only regret is I didn’t buy the deluxe version.

  5. I can appreciate that there are many pre-launch expectations that aren't being met...yet, but a scam is defined as "a dishonest scheme; a fraud". This is not a fraud. It's the best thing to happen for me since the old ATP in 1984 showed me how this hobby was growing. I am a different type of simmer (GA, VFR) and I am having a blast in MSFS! Yeah, there are things I wish were better, but I see this as a very promising start (the whole world! great scenery, weather, some great GA planes, etc.) all for only $59...the price of one MILVIZ T-38A Talon addon (I like MILVIZ BTW). My goal is to enjoy hand flying, for now. At some point I'll try my hand at the more sophisticated aircraft, but as I can see from initial reviews, MSFS will need to keep getting better, and has made a commitment to stand behind it. Time will tell.

I can see that FSX and X-Plane (I have both) work best just now for those who like to fly different than I do. It's great to have choices. Enjoy your choices!

Absolutely. It’s a shame that the games industry as a whole treats customers as paying beta testers but like you I’m thoroughly enjoying VFR GA and to call this a scam is ridiculous hyperbole.

  6. Thanks Stevemill for your reply. I have to upgrade to Windows 10 first and I must admit I don't know what a 2080 card is but I'll do a bit of digging ! PS, Will it fit my mobo ?

Don’t know anything about motherboards but there should be one that does. Depends on whether it takes a full or half size card. I mentioned the 2080 just because it’s top of the range but about to be replaced by a new generation and might come down in price. I’m no expert though. Others here are.

You will need something better than a budget card to get this game going well unfortunately. You should expect to pay a couple of hundred at least.

  7. Got to agree. A serious new graphics card is a must. Wait a few weeks and see what the 2080’s come down to.

Plus you need to dedicate the SSD to just Windows and MFS.

Meanwhile pay £1 for the introduction Game Pass month offer and install MFS and see what the performance is like with your existing system.

Note that the Game Pass cost will go up to a tenner despite the promised £5 per month cost.

  8. Where has this thing been all my simming life!

I’m not connected to this company other than as a customer - just letting other people know there’s an easy way to add a lot of buttons and knobs to your control set up.

I wish someone had told me about these gadgets a long time ago. :)

  9. I read in the other forum that key assignments (keyboard) are affecting AP and other systems

Since i only use the joystick and mouse for knobs i went into Controls - Keyboard and deleted all inputs except those of Menu and Camera

I will try that but I don’t touch the keyboard. It very much feels to me that there are logic states that lead to it having a breakdown. And sometimes it just operates on these when switched off. But certainly worth a shot. It can’t hurt.
