Thanks for the try! I hopes he's busy playing with his commuter train terminal and not holed up in a hospital somewhere.

Amen as long as he is safe, happy and well

WOW! What a great blast from the past! And good to see peer01's face, well not great but interesting, as well.
Does anyone have any idea if Peer is still alive and ticking? I "borrowed" several of the aircraft from his "hanger" over a several year period. Once he ghosted for a few months and several of us did sim searches for his "water-landed" (read crashed) aircraft over several waterways around the world. Then he showed back up again after yet another computer crash.
Hi Rupert I was wondering the same, whatever happened to Peer? I even PM'ed him a couple of times but no answer. The last post he made dates 12 January 2023?????????

I found that getting FS2004/FS9 historical aircraft port overs to FSX very rewarding indeed. These are found on the FSX download library on here. The original models -Microsoft stock FS9- are nothing short of perfect with beautiful outlines and fully working in a very stable way, and beautiful fully functional virtual cockpits too. The added bonus is that they are so easy on computer resources. Each one has an interesting story and historical significance so you can dig out the routes they flew and the feats they achieved and try to tackle these yourself. Below are some screenshots of just four of these examples:

Lockheed Vega 5c

De Havilland DH88 Comet

Ford TriMotor

Curtiss JN-4 Jenny

Hope my two cents' worth helps.
Best wishes.

Don't hesitate to ask questions as you go along.
It is not the easiest process to master, but worth the effort.
Thank you once more, I do understand what you are saying for I have had to go through the motions myself.
Best wishes.

Many thanks to Jgf, Charlie and PhrogFlyer. I will definitely look up all the paths you recommended. Sorry I wasn't well hence the delayed reaction.
Best wishes.

I do apologise in advance because this is probably not the first time someone asked this question: Is there any good repaint tutorial for FSX? I have Photoshop CS5 and want to add roundels and markings to certain models that come with a repaint kit.
I also have FS Repaint V2 but that is neither the easiest nor the most reliable program to use, despite its merits.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thank you berlopez. It’s just that I like the old site looks better, especially the file section.
Thanks again and best wishes

Yes upon a more careful look one can tell, but at the first glance they are so alike.

I am glad you enjoyed the article, it was definitely one challenging flight test program.
It may take a while, but eventually I'll get around to evaluating his other aircraft.
You can find uenoshing's other designs here in FlightSim:

Thank you for the link. Pity about the old file layout changed, was much easier as an interface.

Wow that’s one quality review and one very thorough flight testing. Hats off. Thank you Nels for this hefty post. A standard raiser for sure.
KhalidSorry I didn't see the PhrogFlyer's name as the one who did the flight testing. I guess I have to pass on the high praise and compliments paired with an apology for this oversight. I downloaded the model and took it for a check ride at Edwards AFB. Very impressive, love the under-powered effect and the slow jet spool of the era. This is on a par with any payware. What other models does this guy (uenoshing) produce or is there anything on a par with this quality, even by other developers?

And lets not overlook all the option available here on FlightSim:

Of course! Charity does start at home but I have been away for two years and am totally clueless on how to access files under the new updated design. The old file section layout was the best ever amongst all flight simming websites, hands down.

This one works fine on my FSX:

And this one too:
https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/18538/fsx-lockheed-l049a-constellation-v11/
Both good sources of freeware, Rikoooo and Fly Away Simulations. The ones recommended by berlopez are excellent too, Cal Classics is an awesome place.

Lovely shot, and a lovely girl, the Centurion. I did a couple of hours on it and comparing to the 172 I always flew, this is a Cadillac.

The Right Stuff. I remember as a child I had a book about the X-15 project which I read from cover to cover many times. Lately I saw it in the absolutely adorable movie "First Man" and that gave an unprecedented representation of how scary it was like to be in the cockpit of this machine doing Mach 5+ at the edge of space.

Frank Piasecki was an American engineer and helicopter aviation pioneer. Piasecki pioneered tandem rotor helicopter designs and created the compound helicopter concept of vectored thrust using a ducted propeller. He passed away on February 11th, 2008.
The Piasecki H-21 directly lead to the H-46 Seaknight and the H-47 Chinook.
She's a beauty Phrog! absolutely love this. Although not keen on flying rotary wing on FSX.

Thank you Nels, Tim, and Grimsel for your inputs. The insight it gave really helped me plan my hardware ahead of MSFS computer build.
Best wishes.

For the great majority of members who are ahead of me and already own and use MSFS 2020, I have a question about storage:
I am downloading my copy from Microsoft website, it says I need 150 gigs of hard disk space for the installation files to download. My question is how much a fully deployed, uncompressed, fully featured installation of MSFS 2020 occupies on your hard drive? I am the type who would like to load locally whatever options available so I am talking about the maximum size, with the Premium Deluxe version and 40th Anniversary update?
My FSX folder, for example, takes a horrendous 582 gigs off my 1TB ssd! But I have TONS of add ons.
One can right-click on the MSFS folder and see this through properties. It is to do with planning my storage allocations. Thanks in advance to any respondents.

New features added, old features removed, bug fixes, etc.. No need to worry though, paper manuals are not coming back anytime soon.
Maybe in the distant future then? or should we abandon all hope? -on a serious note, Jim and as I personally am a big advocate of preserving the trees, and try to conserve paper with religious dedication, I was only hoping for pdf manuals actually.
Be well.

What happens when your old fashioned manual is out of date?
How would it be out of date? Probably bulletins and amendments/addenda kick in?
How do you keep FSX interesting?
