  1. This is absolutely horrible.  Either it's literally impossible to browse the library or it's so difficult that it's  practically impossible.  Either way, if this is how FlightSim is going to be, I won't be coming here anymore.  This reminds me of a wise old proverb - if it's not broken, don't fix it.  What existed previously worker perfectly and was easy and convenient to use.  The new site is total garbage.  Whoever is responsible for this debacle is in the wrong line of work and needs to be removed from the FS staff immediately.  They have turned one of the most useful flight sim sites into a real POS.  I'll check back in a week or so and if FlightSim still looks like this I will remove the link from my favorites menu and stick with SimV and AvSim to look for new planes and scenery.  I cannot finds words to adequately describe how utterly dismayed and disgusted I am.  The management of FlightSim should be embarrassed and ashamed.  I wish I could offer constructive criticism but this garbage is beyond repair.  The only criticism I can offer is destructive - put this mess in the trash where it belongs and go back to what we had before.

  2. The FTP upload problem has been fixed!

The fix went in the day before yesterday but the news was announced in a post in a thread where many folks probably wouldn’t see it. So this is to put up a thread with a title line that will be seen by anyone who visits the Comments forum.

  3. I posted about this last week but I posted in the wrong thread. Apparently there was a problem about FTP downloads, something I didn't even know was possible, and didn't read carefully and put my post in that thread.

Anyway, setting up a new computer, I tried to add FlightSim to the list of connections in Filezilla and kept getting messages that no connection could be made. I tried again after a few days and got the same result.

When I highlighted the URL and copied it to paste into Filezilla, Firefox offered to open the link. Curious, I said yes and was welcomed to the home page of the Boston Area MG Club, a great site for aficionados of old British sports cars but totally unrelated to FlightSim.

One might suspect that there are some crossed wires, or whatever the digital equivalent is of crossed wires, at FlightSim's web hosting service.

Maybe if someone at the hosting service could be induced to look into that possibility it would become possible to upload to here via FTP again.

  4. I had no idea that downloading via FTP was even possible. I thought it was just for uploading. Now I see why there are comments that the problem was fixed.

But all is not well, as it’s still not possible to upload via FTP, because it’s not possible to set up a connection. That might be because the Flightsim FTP address somehow leads to a completely unrelated site.

Maybe that’s a clue to why FTP uploads remain impossible. It might also be a clue that the problem is not with Flightsim but with the web hosting service. Either way, I hope someone will get it fixed.

  5. OK, here's a head-scratcher for ya'

I thought I'd try making an FTP connection to see if it was working yet, and when I highlighted ftp.flightsim.com to copy it and paste into the quick connection host window in Filezilla my context menu offered to open the link. Out of curiosity I clicked yes and I was welcomed to the Official Boston Area MG Club Website. Weird, huh? Curious indeed!

I'm posting this for a chuckle, but also in the hope that it might offer a clue to whoever is trying to fix the problem.

  6. I saw this thread when I came to the forum to ask about an FTP connection problem and I see that it was a problem for others a week ago. At least this tells me that the problem isn't on my end.

After most of this year without a real confutor, my new-build rig is at the point where I'm starting to load and set up software. Today I put in Filezilla and it couldn't connect with Flightsim using the information on the Uploads page. I had no trouble connecting with two other FTP sites.

Since there hasn't been a post in this thread for over a week, I thought I should post this just in case anyone doesn't know that the problem continues, though I suppose that's already known and that it's being worked on.

  7. Updates every three days or so has been the case for a little while now, at least a week or two. Quite a disappointment after years and years of daily updates. I suspect it may be due to a lack of interest on the part of the new management. Sad.
