  1. I'm using the FBW A32NX aircraft.

Playing around with RNAV landings. All is going reasonably well.

When I get to retard I'm idling power but I seem to float, If I pull back I get some height.

I'm setting the temp, wind, QNH etc on the approach screen on the MCDU. Speed is same as on this screen, today 137kts

What could I be doing wrong?

  2. What you're seeing is different versions ("revisions") of the same SID. IIRC SimBrief defaults to navigation data (called an AIRAC) from 2019 (you'll see that in the "AIRAC Cycle" portion of the New Flight Plan page.) Sometime after the release of that AIRAC the regulating authorities updated the SIDs you're trying to use.

For example, if the KALE2P was revised to change an altitude crossing restriction over a certain fix, it might be reissued as the KALE3P. The next revision might be the KALE4P.

So what you're seeing is SimBrief's navigation database being out of date for free users. If you want the latest AIRAC in SimBrief I think you'll need a Navigraph subscription.

Can you use the newer data? In our FS world, you sure can. What you have in the sim should match the currently published charts for the SIDs, so you'll need to reference those charts. Generally speaking the SID's end points won't change, so as long as you exit the SID at the same point as SimBrief's flight plan, you should be fine. (I see that the KALE2P joins the airway network at SABDA. As long as the KALE3P in the MSFS FMS also crosses SABDA, everything should work, although if the routing to SABDA changed, your fuel burn might be slightly off. It's not a perfect solution, but such are the nuances of flying in a simulated world!)

    Hope that helps!

That's an amazing help. Thank you.

When I went to arrival I had ILS 02 and ILS 02 N, when I selected the non N version my arrival path was a mess. When selecting N it looks clean.

    Any idea what that's about?

  3. I've tried flights ex KIX (RBJJ) HKG (VHHH) now WLG (NZWN) using flight plans from SimBrief and other free services. All give a flight plan with a SID which isn't in MSFS?

    Am I doing something wrong?

Looking at flying NZWN > NZCH via Sim Brief. The various flight plans ex NZWN using RNWY34 offer SID's KALE2P, POLA2P or POLA2R.

    Using the A32NX FlyByWire model I'm getting DAMB09, ISNI4P, ISNI4T, KALE3P, NZWN2B, POLA5P,POLA4R, RUGDI5, WITB1A, WITB2B

I've tried on the default A320 as well, it's no different.

What's in the names, my SimBrief plan says using KALE2P and MSFS offers KALE3P... could I just use this instead?

Sorry new to this and I'm keen on setting flight plans in the MCDU so I can land and go again without exiting the Sim

  4. I'm trying to fly the A320 and using the FMC or MCDU as it's called now I see...

    I've used the below tutorial.

In my example RJBB-VHHH (Kansai to Hong Kong so major airport I ended up with YME when using the Sim Brief Version

I can do the INIT, PREF and page

I click F-PLN select top left then select my runway and try to find a 'SID'? In my example I can't find TOMOH1 or POPPY???

    What am I doing wrong?

How can I delete points like YME which appears to be way off course? How can I insert points?

  5. The just having to wait stuff is probably getting old for a lot of people and its not just MS. Its impossible to buy yokes, pedals etc right now and upgrading to the nvidea 30 series will probably follow suit.

Personally I will likely be around when all gets sorted out. I have already waited 20 years for the type of VFR flying this new sim provides. My fear is that new people will have moved on well before the waiting game is over and a golden opportunity to expand the flight sim community will be lost.

I love it when people speak on behalf of everyone. FSX was still a popular Sim 14 years after its release.

Of course flight hours of casual simers like myself will drop overtime but I'm hardly going to notice or care about the majority of faults, bugs and errors. Like this one. Would be nice to have but i'll still fly today.

  6. Thanks for the replies. On balance I'd say I'm a tad disappointed with the performance of MSFS2020 from what I have read here and seen on videos elsewhere.

FSX was from recollection primarily running on one CPU core with little support from the graphics card.

We have now moved into the multicore CPU world with powerful graphics cards as the norm. I was hoping (and expecting if truth be told) MSFS2020 would be ultra-smooth even in relatively densely populated areas.

To me it is critical to have smooth graphics. From the overall experience there is little worse than stuttering scenery when landing or taking off in a flight sim. I'd sooner have smoother animation and see less out of the cockpit.

Will I buy FS2020 now or wait to see what happens? I'm undecided. The money isn't an issue but I don't want to waste time installing, configuring and learning only to find myself switching back to XPlane 11.5.

If the money isn’t an issue just do it.

You’ve probably spent the same amount of time and effort thinking about it and seeking opinion oh it.

    Find out for yourself.

  7. They will come but for now I feel you. I almost have buyer's regret for getting the "Premium Deluxe Edition" because The airliners are kind of screwed up right now. Having said that, I'm sure that with a few updates this sim will be awesome. Remember X-Plane 11.00? It sucked, but now it is a great sim. Just be patient.

I get the impression you think I have a problem?

    I don’t, I love the game.

I Just want to fly long haul but not with the 747.

I was just curious if there was add ons for aircraft yet as the price for the version with the 787 isn’t worth it for the one aircraft I want. If not I’ll deal with it.

  8. I had the same problem. The switches for the A320 autopilot are dual. if you hover over it and move the cursor ever so much, you will see it says engage managed or engage selected. I believe the managed one is the one set in the FMC, if you use the engaged selected, that is what you dialed in and it will be set. (or something like that). Honest i had the same issues but I started doing it with the selected one and things worked just fine.

    Done that, it just clears.

  9. So I load up a A320neo at the end of my favorite runway, not destination set. I apply full power and take off. I set autopilot 1 on and try set my altitude and heading.

I get to 5,000ft and level out.

I set my altitude to 34,000ft which stays.

I set my vertical speed to +1,800ft/m but it keeps clearing after a few seconds.

I set my heading to X but it clears after a few seconds.

What the heck am I doing wrong???
