  1. Yeah, it's not as easy as it looks, I will say...

    Yet TDS insists it can be done....

    Good luck OP!

    It isn't really all that hard, but, it isn't just a couple of edits either.

    1) Verify that the model folder contains an FSX native model. TDSX738MAX_LEAPX1B--P2WM.mdl. If not, find it in the download.

    2) Copy the model folder to desktop and rename it model.vc

    3) Copy the B737_800_interior.mdl from the default 738 into model.vc

    4) Edit the model.vc/model.cfg, adding the line: interior=B737_800_interior

    5) Copy the TDS panel folder to desktop and rename it panel.vc

    6) Open B737/panel/panel.cfg and the TDS original panel.cfg.

    7) Copy the Default B737/panel/panel.cfg [VCockpit01] section.

    8) In the TDS panel.vc/panel.cfg scroll to the [VCockpit01] section and paste(#7) before that.

    9) You now have 2 [VCockpit01] and a [VCockpit02] sections. Scroll down and renumber them [VCockpit02] & [VCockpit03]

    10) You will need textures for the VC. Copy the default 738's texture folder(no period or other extension) into the 737 MAX folder.

    11) Inside of that default texture folder is texture.cfg. Copy it to the existing Texture.BOE folder.

    12) The eyepoint will be wrong. In the 737 MAX aircraft.cfg replace the [Views] ->

    eyepoint = with eyepoint = -19.00, -1.55, 1.9

    13) Still in the aircraft.cfg, change to model=vc and panel=vc

    You should now have the original TDS 2D panels and popups with the default 738 VC.

    Hey Guys...Punishment enough??!! ;) ...Don

  2. Once again...Please!

    Everyone, leave this thread strictly to posting crash fixes and links to them.

    Such as:

    From what we have seen recently, the AMD v13.9 driver package is causing FSX crashes.

    If you have that driver package, remove it via the instuctions here: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU57RemoveOldGraphicsDrivers.aspx

    The v13.4 is the latest driver package that is known to work. Top of the page: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/previous?os=Windows%207%20-%2064

    No questions.

    Otherwise, I'll be compelled to lock it...Don

  3. FS Panel Studio? It is a graphical editor for FS panel.cfg Use it for creating or modifying an existing panel.

    You can create a "New Window" with a single gauge, or multiples, that can be dragged onto a seperate monitor on one PC.

    I don't know if there is a way to network panels to a 2nd PC. Some type of simconnect arraingement maybe...Don

  4. I just spent some time reading the most comprehensive Software and Hardware Guide for FSX that I have seen to date.

    It was compiled by Paul Johnson,(Avsim) a couple of weeks ago(1-22-13), and acknowledges the following Masters of the FSX Black Art:

    Jesus “Bojote” Altuve, Nick "Nick N" Needham, Ryan “Tabs” Maziarz, Bill "Fr.Bill" Leaming, David

    "OPA" Marshal(RIP), Holger "Genius" Sandmann, Pete "FSUIPC" Dowson, Mike McCarthy, Michael

    "FS-GS" Greenblatt, Phil "Aces" Taylor, Srdan "Kosta" Kostic, Steve "DX10" Parsons.

    I'm sure you will recognise most of those names.

    Please respect the wishes of the author and DO NOT distribute copies. It is, as noted, a Living Document, subject to future revision...Don

  5. Thank You, Sir!

    A Link to your Guide, on the other site, and your blog, is a common addition to my tweaking and tuning replies.

    Definately deserves a Sticky.

    However, I also believe Jesus "Bojote" Altuve's Auto-Tweaker is an excellent alternative for those that are too timid to edit files...Don

    BTW, I'm going to leave this unlocked for specific questions regarding the Guide and Tweaking tool.

    If it begins to show a lot of "That didn't work" responses, out comes the lock...

  6. Hello dear simmers,

    I've been a long member of the flight simulator community, and for the most part active on the "other" forum, but decided it was time to expand my horizons.

    So, as an entry, here is my first share of something that probably most of you already know, and maybe some don't...

    My FSX/P3D Software and Hardware Tweaking Guide:

    http://kostasfsworld.wordpress.com/fsx-software-and-hardware-guide/

    This guide should help anyone with a modern computer to set up their FSX to work quite well.

    As usual, this might not work for everyone, but it has been confirmed many times that it usually works quite well. Just be sure to give it a detailed read!

    Thank you and questions are always welcome!

    Regards, Srdan Kostic (aka Kosta)

    My Flight Simulation Blog (FSX & P3D Tweaks, Settings, Tests...) aka "How to setup FSX to run really really good?

    Yessir, an excellent guide. Thanks for posting. I'm sure it will assist many of the users here...Don

    As I noted in the FSX Sticky:

    However, I also believe Jesus "Bojote" Altuve's Auto-Tweaker is an excellent alternative for those that are too timid to edit files.

    Jesus "Bojote" Altuve's Auto-Tweaker for FSX

    Important thing to note is that both me and Bojote have different approaches. While mine is geared for more powerful machines, current hardware, SB and IB CPUs, 5th and 6th generation of Nvidia cards, Bojote's tool is more geared towards older hardware.

    Thanks for "qualifying" that...

    BTW, I'm going to leave this unlocked for specific questions regarding the Guide and Tweaking tool.

    If it begins to show a lot of "That didn't work" responses, out comes the lock...

  7. Even though MSflight appears to barely please most of its new users, i think we are gonna need to put some or "many moneys"

    on it if we want to have some airplanes in there and the rest of the world airports ( if there is..)

    P51 is something like 15$ hawai is like 25$ . am i wrong ?

    imagine what it will be when extended..

    I think you are right on target.

    Even with all of the investigating of flight's core files I have done, it is not, I believe, to be capable of being a competitor to FSX. Even a 1,000 DLCs later.

    My tweaked FSX Hawaii, totally freeware except the mesh, is as much fun to fly, low and slow, as Flight is.

    Unless I'm really hugging the deck, or sitting still watching Flight's trees sway(neat feature!), there really isn't a lot of visible difference between the two.

    For me it's more about the challenges of flying rather than sightseeing anyway.

    MS pricing is way out of whack, considering that thier P-51, for example, is nowhere near 1/4 as capable as a $30 A2A Spitfire is even without the Accusim treatment.

    The Hawaiian Adventure Pack at $25 is miniscule(with the Vans RV-6A, though) in comparison to the FTX Australia SP4 with an MSRP of $99.95.

    I've been trying to devote at least an hour a day to "Free Flight"(pun intended), but, there just isn't enough "area" to keep my interest.

    PNW, CRM, NRM, PF, NZSI all afford large areas of detailed terrain. Aerosoft's Antartica X is another fine example of excellent scenery that will provide great flying.

    Those are just the tip of the iceberg when we talk scenery enhancements. I'm talking hundreds of thousands of square miles of detailed terrain with good autogen and shorelines, enhancing the thousands of airports to visit. All available now.

    I fear that MS Flight developers won't be able to compete on such a grand scale, know it, and not even try.

    Future DLC may address the lack of Nav/Comm Radios, ATC, and ILS capable aircraft for those IFR only conditions, but, I'm already getting impatient...Don

  8. Throwing away code that's taken years to get right means that now you have to take years to get the new stuff right. It's kind of pointless.

    Yeah, but rewriting it to accomodate expansion seems to be the direction MS went.

    For us that wanna know things about Flight, and maybe a hint of what it's capabilities are, I took another gander into the workings of it.

    Just a few items I found interesting in CorePropDefs.pak:

    propflightplan.xml

    propRadioSystem.xml

    propworldbase.xml

    Unpak it and peruse some of the *.xml.

    a single element if propflightplan.xml for example;

                id          = "{D0EFA29E-6DCA-4f2f-A984-0BA8A5018965}"
               name        = "FPType"
      type  = "ENUM"
               descr = "IFR or VFR flight plan"
               default  = "None">

                        name = "NONE"
                       xml_name = "None"/>
                        name = "VFR"
                       xml_name = "VFR"/>
                        name = "IFR"
                       xml_name = "IFR"/>

    is just a hint of the variables available.

    Flight's future could be quite bright IF MS follows up an the ground work that has been laid...Don

  9. Backward compatibility very well might put a stranglehold on it. While I'd love to be able to use at least my FSX native add-ons, I'd much rather have the capability to run photo scenery on 2m mesh with PMDG class aircraft at 30+ FPS on a GOOD computer using multiple monitors, or possibly 3D.

    Hanging on to old technology may hurt the natural progression to a realistically simulated planet, visually and environmentally...Don

  10. Okay, am I supposed to buy indivdual materials and assemble them or take apart my computer that I have?

    Or do I buy some kit?

    Pick One!

    You can buy a barebones kit and expand on it, or not, upgrade specific components using your old computer, or make an all inclusive purchase and assemble it.

    Research your parts thoroughly for compatibility.

    Paxx's list #2 is the best line in the guide! Read the manuals...Don

  11. Got it now... Interesting! One can get inspiration about real gauges and instruments to create in FSX.

    EDIT: the idea of a panel designer intrigued me... I have googled around and found this: http://www.fspanelstudio.com/ Does anybody know it?

    Paolo

    With all the panel/gauge work you've been doing I'm surprised you don't already have it! FSPS is probably the best $25 I've spent in quite some time.

    I still have the freeware CFGedit version for FS98 but had to use my old W98 drive to use it...Don

  12. Thanks Don... And Merry Christmas to you as well. I am d/l it right now. Does it provide bitmaps which can be used to build gauges or also complete gauges? And can you export the final result as a fully fledged panel.cfg file or it is just for positioning elements?

    Paolo

    No, it is actually for designing the real thing! You will have to zoom in/out and take screenies and then scale them again in your paint program to make the basic gauge bitmap.

    The needles and other things will also have to be edited. Primarily it is good for having a known instrument base to work from.

    Happy Holidays...Don

    [edit]I just had a thought...Their webmaster is gonna wonder why so much attention all of a sudden!!

  13. While searching for Weather RADAR instrument pictures I came to be at the "Bendix-King by Honeywell" website: https://www.apexedge....com/index.html

    There really wasn't much to see until I saw "Design your Panel" on the menu. Clicked it and downloaded it.

    It took a little effort(Java Update) to get the installer to work right, but well worth it.

    Open up a workplan and drag/drop the instrument.

    With an A-Z by function and A-Z by mfg menu along with search, it is just what I needed to help create my gauges.

    Most of the artwork images look pretty good. You can zoom in and out for taking screenies.

    I haven't been thru the exhaustive list yet. There are 1,551 files in 135 Mfg folders.

    Just thought I'd share...Happy Holidays...Don

    BTW, I also posted this at Avsim
