  1. The term ARROW has Radio Station License! My question is does an FCC GROL - General radiotelephone operator license can take place of a Radio Station License internationally?

I understand in the US you don't really need one!

  2. Boeing up until P3D... Because I live in the US so that is what I preferred plus I like the yoke.

However, I have been flying the Airbus in MSFS on occasion. Have flown on the the A380 6 times in real life almost half way around the world. Despite what the market says about the A380's future, it is a magnificent airplane both from inside and out.

If PMDG makes an A380, I will definitely purchase and fly it along with all the Boeings. My bias towards the Airbus is eroding.

  3. The 10% of females at my club have proven themselves to be more than a match for male pilots, every single on of 'em.

Some of the WORST pilots I have seen/experienced - FIRST-HAND - have been men... I just asked the female pilots who they prefer flying with and they ALL said other `women`...

LOL that is funny! Your profile name indicates you are a male. So we can all safely assume you are the worst pilot in your flying club. I bet none of the females want to fly with you as well. LOL

  4. Women in aviation are analogous to men in nursing profession as Registered Nurse. Working in a hospital I have known and worked with some awesome male nurses who are great at what they do. They too face many challenges working in a majority female dominated profession.

Fact still remains, however, women won't be flocking to aviation as men, and men won't be flocking to the nursing profession as women.

Whether man or woman, if you have the drive and passion for any subject, then just do it.

  5. But if I may go back even further than "star fox", my first flight simulator was really make believe, imagination! I had this lawnmower in the backyard, it was a manual device and only had two wheels in the front. I was small enough to put a little chair on in and it had two cardboard wings I had placed on either side and a "stick" in the middle, not a joystick but a regular stick from a broom. It resembles a biplane....

It didn't have rudder pedals, because I didn't know about them. I just pretend I was flying.

I use to fly that thing everyday for like 2 years.... Until I grew out of it. There was a neighbor girl that saw it too and we use to play airplane. She use to come over and made her own plane next to mine. However mine was better.

  6. When elementary school let out I'd walk down the street, cross a busy street to the 7-Eleven and play Street Fighter on the arcade. I'd always buy candy and what not with what little money I ever had. I know the following is going to sound kinda corny or what ever, but I have to mention it. I'm a history buff so I can see things in their historical perspective. In this instance of me being a free American kid walking down to a 7-Eleven in Southern Cali. of all places (should have never did that). This was during the time of the Berlin Wall, the division between the East and the West. If you lived in the Communist East side of Berlin you would NEVER have this opportunity of going to a 7-Eleven and playing Street Fighter, let alone owning a Nintendo, an Atari, etc. Maybe if you were lucky, and I mean freaking lucky. FFS, Levi jeans were hard to come by. A month after the Berlin Wall came down the first episode of the Simpsons aired. I was the same age as Bart at the time. Just a little history there.

Yep, Hadouken... Street Fighter, man that brings back memories. Same here, right after school. Every day, $0.50 cents on Street fighter....

  7. The very first "flight simulator" I played was Star Fox on Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). I was totally blown away by the graphics and played every day after school. Then I learned about a game called Pilot wings on SNES, this was a bit more realistic because it involved taking off and landing, it it was completely 3D, which was crazy for 16bit SNES system.

In a video game section, I found a PC game called Pro Pilot and I bought it and tried it out. It was awesome but it was limited to United States only but it was an amazing sim. Here I figured out how to navigate using VOR and NDB and also figured out ISL by trial and error. There was a book, manual that came with the game which I still own today.

Then a friend in school introduced me to FS98 sometime in 1988 and I was like holy crap you can fly around the world!!!

So I started flight simming since early 1999 and discovered this site around the same time. I had a user name but I lost its password as I was away from simming because FS2000 requierd some super computer.

Then I came back to flightsimmming and have been using it ever since.

  8. Hi folks;

I am brand new to the flight sim experience (world). Just picked up FS2020, and my wife has bought me the Logitech Yoke and Throttle Package for my birthday next week! I am really excited and pleased to become a member of this fabulous community. Looking forward to sharing experiences with you all!

    Cheers,

    J.C.

Awesome, welcome to the world of flight simulation. This is the place where I have learned a lot about aviation, as this is the place where it all started for me. If you have any questions or need any help regarding aviation, there are many knowledgeable folks here to help, as they have helped me.

And wife bought you flightsim gear!!!! Wow, I have to do my flightsimming in secret when my wife is not home. She hates airplanes.

    Lucky Man

  9. Wondering if there are any apps out there that would enhance my experience flying in MSFS. Something like a MFD or navmap.

    https://support.foreflight.com/hc/en-us/articles/204115275-How-do-I-connect-Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-FS-X-or-FS-2004-to-ForeFlight-

I use flightevents (1st one on the list) to connect to foreflight...

At the same time, their website has also has a moving map with you airplane and all other flyers. For instance if, you step away from your computer you can still see your plane on the map on your phone or tablet.

  10. I love this! Just decided to purchase ForeFlight by the way, since I have a real-life flight class coming up this weekend now. Congrats on surviving that harrowing attempt. I tried to join you by the way but maybe your schedule changed or I just missed you. I might attempt this leg on my own at some point.

Wondering how you will get to Iceland in that thing.

If you want you can join from Nuuk to Kulusuk both are in greenland a distance of 381nm

from Kulusuk to Keflavik BIKF iceland is 348nm

    easily doable in 172

  11. Made it to Greenland after trying for two weeks. I got a rainbow for the first time... Did it in real time, had I moved away from the computer, it would have certainly crashed. Had to climb 3/4 into the flight to avoid clouds.

Made it in a Cessna 172 from Republic Airport to Greenland Nuuk. Next stop Iceland into Europe.

The circle around the aircraft on foreflight is my glide distance should the engine fail.

    Had 10 Gallons remaining...

  12. On medium settings I get a max of 35. In some dense scenery like NYC I get 15 - 25. In any case, anything above a 25 is acceptable for me based on my machine and setting. My medium setting has way better scenery than I had on P3D using Orbx. So I am happy.

What I have noticed is that MSFS runs much better now with updates then it did when I first got it back in August. Back in August I could never approach NYC, now I can... so there is a lot of improvements.

It is a work in progress.

  13. Pretty good odds I can join you for this.

I've been learning a lot about icing lately, in ground school and from some MSFS experiences. Clearly, a C172 with no de-icing equipment should never ever be taken up on a route like this. But I did recently reach the northern tip of Alaska in live weather with one, albeit with several almost-fatalities. It would be a fun challenge.

450 nm is also pretty risky in terms of fuel if you hit a headwind!

Correct - that is why it has taken too long to do this flight.

I believe in the real world if you were to do this flight, the Cessna 172 will definitely have ferry tank.

  14. Departure airport: CYFB (Iqaluit Airport Canada)

Arrival airport: BGGH (Nuuk Godthab Airport Greenland)

Departure date time: Friday 12th March at 14:00 Zulu Time (9:00AM Eastern United States)

    Estimated distance: 450 nm

    MSFS server: East USA

Airplane preference: Cessna 172 or any other piston that will not go too fast or too slow.

    Route of Flight: YFB - MUSVA - 6460N - 6458N - 6455N - KU

Flight Plan: IFR (Real Time & Weather)

    MSFS UserName: LaluSheru

I have been trying to do this flight for almost two weeks and it needs to be done...

  15. I saw many around and it occurred to me that we also need to specify our usernames to find each other, if ever attempting a group flight. So I may have seen you but there were a lot of planes near KSEZ. My username in MSFS is Sudburian.

For future reference, this is a lot easier to do if group members join a Discord channel first (or any agreed upon chatting system, but Discord is set up pretty nicely for this purpose).

Ok good idea to also post MSFS Username.

  16. Giving it some more thought, I figured I should create a convenient communication option too. See updated info below...

    Departure airport: Sedona, Arizona (KSEZ).

    Arrival airport: Payson, Arizona (KPAN)

Departure date time: UTC 1600 hours, Tue., March 9. (This is 0900 hours local time).

    Estimated distance: 42 nm.

    MSFS server: West USA.

Airplane preference: Cessna 172 or similar GA plane.

Communication: I've created a place on Discord where we could text-chat. You will need to pre-register for a Discord account first. Once registered, go here: (link)

I cant join you for the whole flight but I am joining to see... loading FS now!

  17. Say, just for kicks if you feel like it, let us know what date/time on UTC you will attempt this crossing again, and let us know what server you will use. With that information we could actually join you on the flight in our own planes.

I can't do a lot of group flying because it requires an exact match of personal schedules, but when I have it's been fun.

I was going to try it today but Nuuk was IFR and it was really sketchy so I just did some touch and go's at Iqaluit. Up until here, I use to fly after work starting at 4pm My legs are short, less than 150 nautical miles. Now going west, it gets harder because in NY when I start a 4pm it is 5pm in Iqaluit, and in less than 1 hours its dark. And I don't want to fly in the dark.

So I plan to attempt the flight on Friday as it is my day off. This will give me a chance to figure out the group flying and I will post that info here.

My aircraft call sign is N18AC, it was the same C172S I did my first solo flight.

  18. Doing my first one, in real time, using MSFS2020. So far, have done Canberra,my home town to Darwin, then from there to Changi (Singapore). Currently flying to Hong Kong, all flying a B777 (default version in MSFS2020). Next step is Incheon (Seoul, Sth Korea), after that, to turn west or east?

I would go west. There is more land airports. Russia, Asia Middle East Europe Africa... at the tip of Africa you can get to Antarctica and from there to South America and up north to United States and Canada.

Enjoy which ever way to go...
