Hi. Are you running any software in the background while flying FSX:SE that has automatic updates or prompts you that an update is available?

The wacky unpredictability of whether or not I can make it through a routine flight without FSX crashing keeps it VERY interesting for me. That...and the endless problem I have had with FSX over 4 different PCs that I can maintain an excellent framerate until going on final keeps me on my toes.
Sorry for the sarcasm...I just got a gaming laptop a couple of months ago and despite the fact that it can play everything I've thrown at it flawlessly with great detail and stability EXCEPT FSX has me endlessly frustrated.
Still awaiting a great next-gen sim...I'm calling FSX a complete failure after over 10 years and 5 gaming pcs/laptops. Just poorly written I'm afraid...bad graphics engine.
Oddly enough, I got FSX:SE in March and 250 hours later I haven't had a single FSX:SE crash. Do you run the Steam Edition of FSX, too? DTG has announced that they're currently working on a nex-gen sim to fill the void left by FSX. No word on when it will be released.

FSX Steam Freezes

Well, (at least in my case) the updater popups were the root cause of my freezes; Malwarebytes and for a while Avast (which I got rid of in favor of a less invasive antivirus app) were the usual suspects. When I'd go to the Task Manager after the freeze to kill the FSX:SE app I'd see that the updaters were running (booooo! :( ). So, I turned off the updater notifications and haven't had a freeze since.
I also ran msconfig and did a Clean Boot and turned off all services that weren't necessary, which not only freed up more memory, but when I rebooted in that "cleaner" configuration, also gave my FSX:SE a slight boost in performance/frame rates.
Just a few ideas. :)
Happy Flying!
