  1. I managed to get the sim up & running when it first came out but after checking for updates I am informed by the official site that i have to d/l 155 gigs! I have asked about this before but its been a while as I just haven't had the time until now. It will cost me a lot of money to re download the thing. It seems strange as I am informed I have the sim installed already by the official site. Specs; Windows 10 -64 bit/MB BIOS 1.80/Motherboard model 8450/Gaming pro Carbon AC (ms-7885)/Graphics card Radeon CX 5500TT/ 232GB space on C drive & 931GB on F drive.I must have tried to run it over 20 times & all I get is the 'Intro' with music then a check for updates then told its installed but need to d/l 155gigs which takes hours and is not cheap.Any help appreciated as I'd love to get it going again. Cheers, Rod
  2. Yep, I knew the patch would be around that size but my download & install box says I have 110gigs to d/l ! tried all the above advice, even did a system restore. I think like others, i will ask for a refund & come back later when some of the major bugs are fixed. I don't hold out much hope for the refund as it did work originally & its been a few weeks since I purchased it. "C'est la Vie". Cheers folks
  3. My problem is no longer the joystick. I sorted that as per the advice I received through the Forums etc. What i cannot do however is load the sim. It just comes up with a box saying it will download & install the sim & has a highlighted box bottom right saying 'Update'. I press that button & it starts to download 97 gig which seems to me to be the whole program again which I do not want. I just want to get the sim up & running with any & all patches. I have been thinking I may need to uninstall the program & re-install it but I need to know if I can do this without re downloading the whole thing again?
  4. As posted elsewhere on this forum, I managed to download the sim after about 30 hours & was pleasantly surprised to find it seemed to work. I flew a few times for about a week but mainly tried to sort out my Sidewinder joystick inputs/functions etc. Then without warning the sim would go through the startup procedure & after the 'press any key to start' screen I would get the download & Install box saying i had 95+ gigs to download. In other words I had to redo everything. I have followed this up on Zendesk & this forum but I am getting nowhere.

If I uninstall the whole program does this mean that I will have to download it all again?

looking like I will be going back to X -plane very soon!

I spent a lot upgrading my computer & purchasing this sim but my patience is wearing very thin indeed. Help anyone?

  5. It sounds to me like it’s been corrupted or something.. maybe hardware failure or even a virus? The fact that it worked for a week.. also you are hearing the loading/menu music.

I don’t think it’s a fault of the sim itself.

If I was you, I’d back up anything important... wipe the pc completely and then reinstall Windows & eventually the sim itself.. I know it would take a lot of time but there would be a chance of it all working again.

Its certainly weird alright. Today I tried again as patch 2 is out & thought maybe it would sort it out. I left it downloading for about 3 hours but it seems to want to do the whole 95+ gigs. I am hoping to hear back from Zendesk as I can't really afford another large download.

Thanks for your helpful suggestions Steve. Rod

  6. Thanks but it went perfectly well for over a week on a daily basis. I have tried to run it from the startup icon & the one from the list of applications. All I get is the music & the screen saying it will download & install. If I press the 'Update' icon at bottom right, I get the download bar showing empty & a download size of 95+ gigs. It took me 30 hours to download in the first instance which costs a fair bit on top of the purchase price. I have submitted an enquiry to 'Zendesk' (think its called that). They have acknowledged receipt of it but of course not heard a thing from them. Doubt if I can get a refund as it did download o.k in the beginning. What a frustrating disappointment! Thank you for your help.
  7. That’s a strange one. I’ve just booted up mine to check if it downloads anything but no, it launched as normal.

I don’t suppose you’ve logged in as a different user? Or maybe deleted / uninstalled anything?

    Regards

    Steve

No, no deletion but tried to run as Admin but still says 97+ gig to go! In the box at bottom right corner it says 'Update'.

Should i let the download go for a while to see if solves itself?

  8. The Cessna autopilot works somewhat differently in X-Plane. Lets say you are at KFET on runway 130. You want to fly east at 96 degrees at an altitude of 3,000 feet. Take off and establish a desired climb. Set your heading bug (above the yoke) to 96 degrees. Press the hdg button at the base of the radio stack. Now press the vs button. This will establish the climb you instigated. The knob to the right lets you adjust the climb rate, so if you want to climb at 400 fpm, turn the knob to +4. You climb until you reach 3,000 feet. Then press alt button to the left of vs button and the plane will level off at 3,000 feet. There is no flight director involved.

    Many Thanks

  9. Hello. I am used to Microsoft Flight sims but due to problems with FSX not loading on Windows 10 I have purchased X Plane. I do like it but am struggling to find the flight Director so that I can fly on Autopilot. I have spent several hours trying to locate the autopilot panel & just don't get it. Sorry but if anyone can enlighten me, then thanks in advance.
