oldspark
I am trying to figure out what's happening here. I have a Win XP system. Sometimes when I try to link imagetool.exe or DXTBmp.exe to view my texture files I get a "Not a valid Win32 application" pop up box. I tried changing the Compatibility to Windows 2000. Do you know any other tricks to get around this block?. Sometimes the bmp files will open and sometimes I get the message. What's happening? davidjones
It may be that some of textures you are trying to open are simply incomprehensible to the applications. If they open sometimes and sometimes not, then there is something not right with your system. DJ
mgh
Does FS9 runs properly on XP? If it does then problems are elsewhere. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/315589
oldspark
mgh, FS9 runs fine where it is. Microsoft wants me to install FS9 in Programs and I don't want to. I now have it on C Drive where Opa told me to put it years ago. David, You may be right. I'm wondering if there are flightsim .bmp files that Paint, Microsoft Office Picture Manager, Windows Picture Viewer just can't see. But I would have thought Image Viewer and DXTBmp could see them because that's what they are for, isn't it?
davidjones
Yes - many of the modern era bmps that flightsim uses can't be opened with conventional tools. Seems to me you need to use PSP or similar, but I'm not a painter. There are some that Image Viewer and DXTBmp can't open as well because the formats used were developed later than the tools. There are other available texture editors that might be usable. Try searching the Flightsim and/or AVSIM libraries.

StringBean
I have never found any FS image types that cannot be opened in DXTBmp. Did you install the .DLL package that is required by DXTBmp? peace, the Bean WWOD---What Would Opa Do? Farewell, my freind (sp) Never argue with idiots. Avechelice
Hello, One very good free images editor (but not specific for open FS2004 textures files !! :) ) http://www.irfanview.com But seems weird you can't open aircraft textures files with DXTBmp Be sure to have the latest version http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/programs/dxtbmp.htm http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/download/dxtbmpxnew.exe Regards.http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/a/bye.gif If you gave a couple of monkeys a box of ballpoints, enough paper, and enough time, they'd eventually finish up writing the complete works of Shakespeare :)
oldspark
Avechelice & StringBean, That did the trick. My program was from 2004. The new one is from 2014. Thank you
