Start a flight, in flight

Recommended Posts

In FSX you were able to start a flight with the plane already flying so if you just wanted to practice landings you did not have to first take off each time.

It seems that this may be possible in FS2020, as the Paris-Charles de Gaulle event shows:

From: Paris-Charles de Gaulle

-Airborne- 1401 Ft

But how can I use this for any other airports?

The easiest way is to save a flight while in the air and then load it again (press escape, then Spacebar for save/load options)

Note that you won’t be able to change the weather etc when you reload a flight.

If you turn developer mode on, you can also change aircraft or location at any time. Some say it’s not good to use developer mode though unless you’re a developer.

From the Welcome screen just click on a spot in the world map where you want your flight to "begin". You don't have to be at an airport and the sim will start with you airborne at that spot. Obviously choose your aircraft, weather etc. first then "Save" the flight (space bar).

In the welcome screen, I enter the lat/lon location in decimal degrees in the search field on the left; then click the lat/lon displayed under it in DDMMSS for a custom location; then click on that location and set as departure. It will start you off about 1600' AGL. You may have to immediately go into slew mode (by pressing Y) to adjust your direction of travel or the altitude you want; toggle Y again to exit slew mode, and begin flying.
