I have the same CPU and have looked really hard at this issue. Based on what I know I wouldn't go with anything more than a 2060 Super as the 4790K probably won't be able to feed it.
Intel 10700K @ 5.0 Ghz, Asus Maxumus XII Hero MB, Noctua NH-U12A Cooler, Corsair Vengence Pro 32GB 3200Mhz, Geforce RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, and other good stuff.

I'd second that - I'm currently using a 1660 Super and it rocks MFS (high settings) at 1080p although I'd recommend chipping up to 32GB of RAM.

My rig:

GTX 1660 Super

Ryzen 5 3600 OC 4.2ghz

16gb 3200 Ram (will be doubling this)

MFS loaded on SSD drive

Staying on topic...

As others have kindly mentioned, I wouldn't go higher than a 1660 Super or an RTX 2060 (for AMD, an RX 5600 XT, perhaps a 5700). Higher tier GPUs might give you a few additional frames per second, but they will be seriously hampered by your CPU; not to mention the fact, you'll be paying through the nose for the privilege.

I agree. I run an AMD 5700 and MSFS runs and looks great.
