jethrom
Hello Jive1, The "TrafficToolBox" for FSX is installed by installing the FSX SDK. But you will need the correct SDK for your version of FSX. It is a little complicated without some details about your FSX version. The SDK installs a set of tools into the "FSX SDK folder structure" (Core Utilities Kit, Environment Kit, Mission Creation Kit, SimObject Creation Kit) including TrafficToolBox, it also adds entries to your FSX.cfg [Trusted] section, along with some new entries in to your DLL.XML file which allow access to the SDK Tools from your FSX Banner menu "Tools" (object_placement.dll, traffictoolbox.dll & visualfxtool.dll) I'm not 100% sure if the SDK installs properly with FSX:SE as it preceded the Steam version. Maybe someone knows from experience how to install the SDK for the Steam version. Perhaps give this FSDeveloper Wikki a read through. https://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=SDK_Installation_(FSX) If you could also read the SDK_Installation_(FSX)_-_Troubleshooting it may give you some clues as to why the SDK Traffictools aren't working for you. If you have installed the FSX SDK already but are having difficulty configuring the tools to appear in the FSX banner tools, could you describe what does not work, and a little more about your FSX version (you can find the FSX version number by clicking Help on the FSX menu banner, then choose "About Microsoft Flight Simulator" take a picture of the info panel and upload it in your reply. We will need to see your DLL.XML and your fsx.cfg files in their complete format. Perhaps also there is a folder/location/path issue in either of these files preventing the Tools from showing up in your FSX banner menu. You should have been given the opportunity to allow the .dll's to be added to these config files via a popup dialog when starting FSX after the SDK install. airernie
It's also important that the version of the SDK matches the version of FSX Gold. So, if you're running FSX Accelyou need to run SDK Accel, etc. Ernest Pergrem System: i7-13700K, Gigabyte Z790 UD AX, 32GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1080 FTW Gaming, Windows 11 Pro 64-bit, MSFS 2020, FSX, Thrustmaster T.16000M Joystick, Cessna Pedals, Saitek Trim Wheel, Switch Panel, and Multi Panel
Jive1
Hey! jethrom, At lleast your explanation already maakes a lot more clear to me. Before I restart installing Traffictoolbox according to your explantion, I want to inform als followe: - I have FSX De Luxe ( 2 disks ) 10.0.61.0(fsc-sp1-20070518-2038) and I installed same on my drive D:\FSX - procuct ID = 83884-104-5967942-70769 - I had installed this FSX several times and each time something was not correct, especially with the content of hte dll.xml - presently my FSX is working, nothing else has been installed with only sp1 - I can install the SDK of disk1 but did not yet, I wait till I get more advise from you - due to the fact that I reinstalled several times, there is pressently no DLL.XML in the FSX Folder, maybe I will have to reinstall FSX?... or can I just leave it like it is now? - I have read the explanations of the fsdeveloper and so I see that all what I did up to now was incomplete, with your advise I'm sure traffixtoolbox will be well installed. - Up to now, in all what I tried, not one single time the Tools was visible in the FSX menu. - my FSX.CFG is as follows: [sOUND] AmbientUIMusicVolume=-6.000000 SOUND=1 SOUND_QUALITY=2 SOUND_LOD=0 UISound=0 AmbientUI=0 PrimaryDevice={00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} jethrom
Hello Jive1, I will try to help where possible, but I insist that you follow instructions and read advice carefully for a solution to work. There are several things that are immediately apparent. Your FSX version seems strangely inconsistent with what might be shown as an FSX_SP1 version number. What I need is a "jpeg" picture of your FSX Version from the FSX Banner menu Help tab "About Microsoft Flight Simulator" Please use Alt+PrtScn keys to take a picture of this panel and upload it in your reply. FSX.cfg would be nice to have the actual file (not copied text), I also need, particularly for the dll.xml an actual file (because it is has special formatting that must not be simply copied as text, format is critical for this .XML to function as intended) .xml's and .cfg files must not be opened or edited in a word processor, only in MS NotePad. While the SDK can be installed for FSX_SP1(there were provisions for this, but now unavailable as noted in the FSD Wiki) your SP1 version does not match a typical SP1 Version number from your typed text. There are also pre-requisite programs for the OS that must be installed prior to installation of the FSX_SDK as noted in the FSD Wikki. If you are installing the SDK on a PC without FSX installed, there are 4 non-optional tasks you must perform first - .NET 2.0 Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 must be installed first, (an FSX prerequisite). Download the redistributable appropriate to your operating system : x86- Microsoft Downloads - .NET Framework Version 2.0 (x86) (includes SPs)x64- Microsoft Downloads - .NET Framework Version 2.0 (x64) Please note: All .NET versions are supplemental they are not replacement versions ! VC2005 Redist The Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package must beinstalled first, (an FSX prerequisite). Download from: Microsoft Downloads - VC++ 2005 RedistributableYou could also use the MajorGeeks All-in-One installer XML4 XML4 must be installed first, (an FSX prerequisite). Download from: Microsoft Downloads - MS XML4 (includes SPs) Please note: MSXML versions are supplemental they are not replacement versions ! Although it states that these are required for installation of the FSX_SDK on a PC without first having FSX installed, Do you have these pre-requisite programs installed. (reading your other posts about installing the SDK tools) It also seems that you have some unusual folder locations for FSX and FSX_SDK (it is unwise to install the SDK inside the FSX Root Folder) it is also unwise to use the FS9 version SDK or reference it to your FSX installation) In an effort to get a good picture of your installation locations/paths for FSX and the FSX_SDK, Can you please open your FSX installation root folder, right click your File Explorer Address bar and select "copy Address as text" paste that into your reply post. Do the same for the FSX_SDK folder location. These locations will determine what and where things are located for the entries which must include correct paths to the .dll's in order to function and appear as selectable in FSX menu. If in doubt you can take scren pictures with PrtScn (Paste into MS paint Save as .jpg or .png, upload in your reply posts). ie; My install locations for FSX and FSX_SDK are as follows: G:\FSX G:\FSX SDK\SDK G:\FSX SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll G:\FSX SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll G:\FSX SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\Object_Placement.dll These paths were automatically entered into my setup after successful installation of the SDK. FSX.cfg SDK tool string entries and activated with =1 to complete the path string. And in the DLL.XML module entries for the FSX menu tool options - manual "launch/load". There is also an incomplete... dll.xml located in "SDK\Mission Creation Kit" you may place into your C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX folder. From there we can... if... all... other SDK folders are installed in the right location... attempt to correct/add the paths for FSX.cfg [Trusted] section and include all relevant SDK tools including TrafficToolbox .dll module. You also might have Administrative permissions issues, preventing .DLL's and XML files to be created or write new entries when in your previous attempts installing the SDK. Do you have FSX installed into the Administrator User Account. Have you given Full Admin Permissions to the FSX installation Folders and files. The reason I ask is because, you state that you have no DLL.XML and you have no SDK tool entries in the FSX.cfg [Trusted] section. You may also have your OS "UAC" (UserAccountControl) enabled, preventing SDK processes being written to the FSX.cfg and DLL.XML being copied or written. Unfortunately, unless you have a saved copy of the SDK SP1 RTM then we may have problems installing any version of the TrafficTools or SDK. Many of us still using FSX have the 3 Disk FSX DeluxeGold AccPack, although some are still using SP1/SP2 to enhance FSX. On Disk 1 & AccPack Disk of the 3 Disk FSX Gold Deluxe are all files needed to install the SDK in sequence. All this is predetermined on having a good FSX installation and a Good FSX SDK installation, we shall see!! Jive1
Hey! Jetrohm, For good orders sake I made a clean install of both FSX and SDK of the disc 1 Enclosed are 3 files: - FSX.jpg is my FSX banner - FSX.txt is my FSX.cfg which is in C:\Gebruikers\jiv1\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\FSC.CFG - dll.txt is my DLL.XML file which is in my C:\Gebruikers\jiv1\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\dll.xml ( sorry I could nod sent these files with their Original extension, so I just changed that extension into txt in the uploaded files, nothing else! ) My install locations for FSX and FSX_SDK are as follows: D:\FSX G:\FSX-Tools\ SDK\SDK G:\FSX-Tools\ SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll G:\FSX-Tools\SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll G:\FSX-Tools\SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\Object_Placement.dll Of course there is also another dll.xml in the installed SDK-folder ofthe Traffic Toolbox, and that is the uploaded one that I named 'dll new.xml' I hope this is what you asked me, before you can tell me what I must do for installing yje Traffictoolbox.dll in my FSX Regards Jive1 - Belgiumfsx.txtdll.txtdll new.txt
jethrom
Hello Jive1, Thanks for the updated info, please give me a short while to digest and I will come back with a plan. Try not to make any further changes until I get back to you, (tomorrow). It appears that your FSX version is indeed the RTM (SP1 SP2 not applied), so we should be able to get the FSX SDK working. I'll be back soon, I live in Australia and its 3am, my eyes are too tired atm, so I will get some sleep and come back tomorrow, don't worry we'll get this SDK TrafficToolbox sorted. jethrom
Hello Jive1, @il88pp, that's not going to work with the current fsx.cfg or dll.xml, there are some issues which I think are corrected now, but I'll wait for Jive1 to reply to a quick question or two before uploading the newly amended files. The tools menu can't show with the current configuration entries. @Jive1, According to your #7 post the Drive letter G: and SDK folder locations to... Object_Placement.dll visualfxtool.dll & traffictoobox.dll and your Main FSX installation D:\FSX, are as follows: D:\FSX (FSX installation path) G:\FSX-Tools\ SDK\SDK G:\FSX-Tools\ SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll G:\FSX-Tools\SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll G:\FSX-Tools\SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\Object_Placement.dll FSX-Tools\SDK\SDK\ This folder path while unconventional and definitely not the default location, will work if you can confirm the Drive letter & paths are correct. Can you quickly confirm these are the correct folder paths to those 3 .dll's I have had to amend several inconsistencies and need to know that these are absolutely correct before sending you the amended fsx.cfg & dll.xml * Is your Operating System a Belgium Language version or English US or UK My uncle is Dutch, but alas I had to use Google Translate to find out that (Gebruikers means Users in Dutch) O'h well we will get there somehow. * Can you also confirm that you have installed the Pre-requisite software per the FSD Wikki, and Installed any Windows Updates. * Can you confirm also that you have installed the SDK As Administrator in the Admin User account * Can you confirm that you have UAC disabled, * Can you confirm that you have given your Main FSX installation folders & files Full Administrative permissions. Look forward to hearing from you very soon. Cheers Jethro Edited November 30, 2019 by jethrom

jethrom
Hi Jive1, Ok think I've got something now. So here's the plan. Please follow the 5 point instructions listed below. DB link amended fsx.cfg : https://www.dropbox.com/s/3fmwhpcqh3h8iql/fsx.cfg?dl=0 DB link amended dll.xml : https://www.dropbox.com/s/sn03ehhf7yzqs98/dll.xml?dl=0 1.) Download the newly amended fsx.cfg and dll.xml from the links above. (into a temp folder on your desktop). 2.) Open your C:\Users\jiv1\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX folder, and create a new folder called SafeBackup, locate the existing dll.xml and fsx.cfg, "move" cut/paste them into the SafeBackup folder. 3.) Now, copy/paste the "new ones" (amended) saved to your desktop, into the C:\Users\jiv1\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX folder. 4.) Now, you can start FSX as il88pp said above, then load a flight so that you see your FSX menu banner, there should now be a "Tools" menu item (dropmenu) (See sample pic below). 5.) If you see any dialog asking you to "Trust" a .dll file answer "yes" or "run" It is not expected that you will but if the trust dialogs appear please allow them by clicking yes or run. This should give you the necessary SDK Tools menu to access the Traffic toolbox menu items. I Look forward to seeing a positive result, please reply back with your confirmed results. Cheers Jethro For anyone following the thread the amended files are specific to Jive1's setup, and will not work for your installation, regardless when Jive1 confirms success I will remove them from the DB links. Jive1 should retain a backup copy of these amended files, if ever needed for the same install down the track. Jive1
I'll do it all over again, Jethro, because I 'm not so sure that the Pre-requisite software is stilll OK, after so long a rime and several reinstalls of FSX, and then I'll post again all data here on the forum. Jive1
Hey! Jethro, Forget my last message, because…. I did not do iy all over again. Instead…. So, as you said, I did the 5 steps mentioned in your last message, and you know what… I see the Tools in the FSX menu, and I can indeed call the AI-aircraft and I see them. There is howeven one question to me... In FS9 I could show these AI aircraft in a saparate window and that window was sizable from small to wode. Ap^parently that does not work here in FSX?... Or is something still not correct? But this is a bif adc-vantage to me, so I don't to reinstall all software? Thank you for your advises. Jive1
Hey! jethrom
Hi Jive1 So happy your FSX SDK tools are now working, you should be all good now. Forget about FS9 Traffic Tools as a basis for the Traffic Tools in FSX they are different animals. To answer your questions about the FSX Traffic Tools MAP, Explorer & Settings. I have taken a picture of the 3 in my sim, and added some instructions that may answer some of those questions. (Green Yellow Red text and arrows) (See Below) enlarge as needed for viewing. Jive1
Greetz Jive1 - Belgium
Jive1
What I think is a pity, and therefore I'm also missing, is that when I click on an AI aircraft in the Traffictoolbox, I see here in FSX this aircraft in a new little window, and not in the original window of FSX as is the case with FS9. Does anyone know how I can achieve that? Greetz Jive1 - Belgium
