About This File

FS98 Martin P6M Seamaster. A US Navy four engine jet strategic bomber seaplane of the 1950s. The P6M's intended mission was strategic (nuclear) strike, reconnissance, and aerial minelaying. Surprisingly, its performance in the low level penetration role was superior to that of the B-52 Stratofortress. On the verge of becoming operational, the program was abruptly cancelled in the late 50's due to the success of the USN's Polaris ballistic missile submarine program. The Seamaster was the last aircraft produced by the Glenn L. Martin company prior to its merger with Lockheed. Plane by Mike Hill, FD by Brian Horsey, panel by Dana McGee.
