CFS2 US Navy Douglas SBD-3 Dauntless. The SBD "Slow But Deadly" Dauntless, considered obsolete when the war began in 1941, was the backbone of carrier and land based dive bomber squadrons through most of the war. At the Battle of Midway in June of 1942, SBD's flew from the carriers Enterprise, Hornet and Yorktown, sinking 4 of Japan's front line carriers.
