About This File

This scenery is for the Expeditionary Airfield located at MCB Twenty-nine Palms CA (NXP).
It improves upon the vacant default airfield and removes the non-existent default hangars.

The rendition is based upon personal experience while flying at NXP throughout the 1980’s.
I have attempted to recreate the look and feel of this airfield as it appeared during many Combined Arms Exercises (CAX), when there was much activity at the airfield and surrounding area.
Added are parking for combat, cargo, and general aviation aircraft.

And for the ground-ponders, there are some ground  units in the exercise corridor, 7 miles NE of the airfield.

Additional scenery libraries are required for all objects to appear.

The enclosed notecard lists install instructions and the list of libraries, with links for download.

This covers Nine Palms in olive green tents and Quonset huts, with a low viz Hercules, F-18s, and MH-53s.  Excellent but, the tanks didn't work on my set up so the armored column  was a green truck and a green tent hidden behind some oversize sandhills in the middle of the valley. The recon detail didn't show up either, probably a fault somewhere in my set-up.

There is also a down side to this scenery as you get aircraft turning up at Chino including what looks like an Antonov 228 which the museum at Chino doesn't have. This is not PhrogPhlyers fault but comes from other scenery used in this one.

Response from the author:

Sirrus,

I am sorry that you found this to be not to your liking.

Not sure how you went from your "Excellent" comment just 5 days ago to this.

However, I must respond to some of your comments.

  • During the '80s all of the tents and ground equipment were OD, not desert tan/sand.  Tan/Sand was used during the 90's and today.
  • The jets on the ramp are F-18s, as appropriate for a USMC operation.
  • The C-130 is a Marine aircraft in the colors and markings of VMGR-352.
  • The "oversized kiddies wigwams" you refer to are sand mound objects found within a scenery library. When I can find better sand mounds, these will be replaced/updated.
  • The tanks didn't work because they are static. I never stated there were any animated objects in this scene. I did state that I attempted to create the look and feel of a CAX in the '80s.
  • I do not know why some of the objects did not appear for you, I removed it from my FSX, downloaded from FlightSim, and reinstalled. It appeared as it was created.
  • I have no idea why you are referring to Chino, as I only placed items in the MCB Twenty-nine Palms EAF area.
  • The scenery objects used were created by others and I thank them for their efforts.
