About This File

FS2004 AI Texture Converter - BMP/DXT From DDS Repaints. This batch file, coupled with the included NConvert graphics conversion software from Pierre-E Gougelet allows FS2004 users to quickly convert DDS-format liveries for AI aircraft into BMP formats. Output can be controlled using folder names, and will be either DXT1 (no alpha) if there are no alpha channel elements there, DXT3, or 32-bit with or without bitmaps. You can run this on individual livery folders within your setup, or convert DDS livery files that are unzipped from a download into a folder on your desktop, using drag and drop onto a short cut that you create. Instructions included. Once you are used to how it works, it is a very quick process even for single liveries. For large fleets it will free up a lot of time! No more livery-by-livery conversions. Sorry, no support via email is offered. However since you are an FS2004 user, you can find me sometimes on FS2004.team. By Matthew Ministry/RF.

Hi Stuart -

If the DDS is in a folder, it is the *folder* that you drag onto the shortcut for the converter, not just the DDS image by itself. The folder system is necessary because you can process an entire fleet at the same time, so the process handles folders rather than individual images. The BMPs created end up in the same folder, after which you can get rid of the DDS.

Can you please show me to make your youtube? How to step by step process it works? I cannot understand how that works. I'm confusing and I'm deaf hard to understand English grammar meaning of that.

Thanks,

Stuart

Hi Stuart - Sorry you're having difficulties. I don't have any means to upload film and no way to make one anyway. My readme is probably not ideal for you, so, simple steps

1/ Unzip the texture converter files into a separate folder. If you have FS2004 utilities in a folder it would go there.

2/ Find the file "DDS2BMP_Slim.cmd" in this newly created folder.

3/ Put mouse pointer over this file - click and *hold down* right-mouse button

4/ Drag mouse pointer to desktop and let go of right mouse button.

5/ A menu appears - choose "create shortcut here" - and a shortcut will appear.

That's the installation.

Now, if you download FSX textures, you can convert by unzipping the texture package to your desktop, and then drag that new folder over your shortcut and "drop" it there. Any DDS textures in there will have BMPs created that can be used in FS9.

The DDS is still there and after you have checked the BMPs you can then delete it.

What is this d3dx9_34.dll was not found? It works fine I saw it pops up new bmp. I would have to put DXT3 myself but it is much less click and click too many converter from size, flip and save as bmp then DXT3 then saved. So should I download 3d3x9_34.dll to put the folder DDSBMP conveter main folder or my Windows x86 system or system32 or what?

Thanks,

Stuart

@Stuart

I ran this on a different computer to where my FS9 is and saw the same message as you. I'm not sure that it is necessary to install any other version of Direct 3D, since the process still works fine, but it is annoying to get that message. I will need to look at the reasons why look for a solution. I have 4 systems that I can run this on, and only one of them shows this message.

@Dedl - I use it for individual liveries these days, but originally I made it because I was installing Ryanair, Easyjet, Frontier and a few other airlines that have a mass of textures that needed converting. It was quicker and less error-prone than manually converting using DXTBMP.

As long as you get a texture at the end of it in the format you want, that should be fine. the process shows many other "errors" that are not errors, when it looks for files to check whether they are there or not. Sometimes it will do something depending on whether a file is available, but the result of simply checking creates an error message even in cases where it does not matter that there is no file (and the program just does something else). It's a consequence of writing this using "batch files language", that are best suited to writing quick and simple things such as this.
