FSX Wright Vin Fiz. With regard to the news article on Calbraith Rogers' first coast-to-coast flight completion across the USA on the 5th November 1911, here is an FSX update of Paul Beardsley's model. Considering the the age of his model (2003), it's quite detailed but there were some issues that had to be corrected for FSX. Some parts were transparent and the flight dynamics had to be corrected as well. The prop is now brown as expected for a wooden propeller. The original model is even equippped with VC view, not common for such an old model at all, and a new 2D panel has been added as well. FSX adaptation, FDE corrections and new 2D panel by Michael Pook.

Thanks Michael for the upgrade. One thing though - Paul Beardsley got it right - the propellor was light colored (even though it was wood), not brown. This is evident in many of the period photos of the plane. You can also see the original silver-painted wooden propeller housed at the Smithsonian: https://airandspace.si.edu/collection-objects/wright-ex-vin-fiz-propeller-fixed-pitch-two-blade-wood/nasm_A19340060001. The propeller on the on machine hanging from the ceiling is light colored (not dark brown), but in any case, it cannot be relied upon totally, as the whole plane is a reconstruction. During the crossing attempt, Rodgers crashed 16 times, and the damage was so extensive the plane had to be rebuilt twice. After the flight, souvenir hunters took their pick, and what was left for us today was just a few original parts.

Looks like a great plane to fly.

Unfortunately, the plane overstresses on the runway when selected.

I installed as directed.

What am I doing wrong?

I had that problem too,

 

in Aircraft.cfg, under [airplane_geometry], you had,

 

positive_g_limit_flaps_up=0.000000

negative_g_limit_flaps_up=0.000000

 

so when the simulation starts the aircraft has a positive G value of 1, which exceeded the positive G limit of 0 and caused an immediate overstress.. I set some guesses for values and doesn't crash.
