About This File

FS2004 Scenery--Revelstoke CYVR in British Columbia Canada. Revelstoke is around 400 miles northeast of Vancouver, on the banks of the Columbia River. It was first established in the 1880's and the main industry was mining. The railroad built by the Canadian Pacific Railway passes through the town and dates back to around 1885. Since then the Trans-Canada Highway in 1962 further eased access to the area and the primary attractions of the town are now winter sports, with a population that varies from 7,500 to over 15,000 according to the seasons. The airfield is very visible, with the runway (aligned 12-30 and 4,800 feet long) usually surrounded on three sides by water, though this varies according to the seasonal water level and there has been some land infilling in recent years. There is no lighting for the runway or taxiways as the surrounding terrain totally rules out any flying after sunset. A glance at the screenshots explains this, and right hand circuits are required for runway 12. This version is for around 2010 and predates any land infill. By Roger Wensley.
