About This File

FSX Van's RV-9A Updated Version 2. Van's Aircraft is the leader in home-built kit planes. The RV9A is a side by side two-seat with the nose wheel. My previous upload on June 2020 was mislabeled and this version has several changes and is for FSX only. This plane was built on a model designed by Chuck Dome after I asked for his assistance. I have made the blue version of the C Dome model as my own with reworking the .air and Aircraft.cfg files and a standard panel as opposed to a glass panel. Because the RV-9A is a kit the real cockpits vary widely from basic standard panel to the glass. The RV-9A has max speed of 182 KIAS, cruise speed of 157 KIAS, and a stall speed around 45 KIAS. I have made accessible the checklist and reference files with an icon provided to make things easier. By J Dwayne Redding.

From J Dwayne Redding-- Somehow I failed to notice that the toe brakes were not effective enough on short field landing. In the Aircraft.cfg file under [brakes] is a line that should read toe_brakes_scale=1. - I will try that and lower my approach speed for those landings over an obstacle. There are 4 other lines of the cfg file that I do not think have any real effect but they are not consistent with the reference files I have provided.

Under [flaps.0] (The 0 zero designates Electric powered.) There were numbers given for damaging speed and blowout speed that were beyond imagination. The lines should read: damaging-speed=105 KIAS and blowout-speed=115 KIAS Those are not numbers I can find in my notes but are based on the numbers that I have. Flaps @ 20 degrees has max speed of 96 KIAS and Full flaps has max speed of 70 KIAS. My original numbers came from a similar plane by someone else and may have been intended to prevent failure in the simulator.

The same cfg file has wrong speeds under [Reference Speeds] and not all of the reference speeds are given here. It should read cruise_speed=156 KIAS and max_indicated_speed=182 KIAS Any and all comments are welcome. Thanks to all who gave it a try. Dwayne wbredsail@yahoo.com

Simple fix for Checklist and Reference files not showing. In the Aircraft.cfg for each of the 3 planes RV-9A should have the following 2 lines: kb_checklists=RV-9A_Check and kb_reference=RV-9A_ref . The problem was that because i was working on a FS2004 RV-9A and well as the FSX models, I added the FSX in the name of the Checklist and Reference files and forgot to consider that. The files for FS2004 checklist and Reference are exactly the same for the RV-9A. This plane was well worth all the time I spent but I'm not sure I could do this again. However if you have a model that is giving you problems, I can possibly offer you constructive comment. J Dwayne Redding wbredsail@yahoo.com
