About This File
FSX/P3D USAF Fairchild C-119G Satellite Recovery. This is a repaint of a Fairchild C-119G in USAF Sattelite Recovery colors. Daisuke Yamamoto's freeware C-119 is needed for this repaint. This USAF C-119 ( Serial 5-18037) was built as a C-119 and was delivered to the Air Force in 1953. It was converted to a C-119J in 1955, and then again to a C-119G in 1957. In September 1958, it was sent to 6593rd Test Squadron at Hickam AFB Hawaii. It was officially designated as a C-119J sometime after Jun 1957. The C-119J was specially modified for the mid-air retrieval of space capsules re-entering the atmosphere from orbit. On August 19 1960 it made the world’s first mid-air recovery of a capsule returning from orbit when it snatched the parachute lowering the Discoverer XIV satellite at 8,000 feet altitude, 360 miles southwest of Honolulu, Hawaii. In November 1963 it was flown to the Air Force Museum at Wright Field, Wright-Patterson AFB, and that's where it still is. Check the photos I've included of the satellite retrieval sequence.Textures are 32bit BMP. This repaint was tested on FSX-SE. It should also work on FSX, P3D v1-3. By Ted Giana.
