FS2004 KAL Boeing 747-230B, registration HL7442. B747 serial number 20559 was delivered to Condor, a charter subsidiary of Lufthansa as D-ABYH on March 31, 1972. It remained with them until March 2nd, 1979 when she was sold to Korean Airlines and re-registered as HL7442. It remained in service for four and a half years until it was shot down over the island of Sakhalin on September 1, 1983. Other than the Cuban Crisis in 1963, there was no time in the history of the cold-war when tensions between the Soviet Union and the United States were worse. By Ken Padgitt.
