About This File

FS2004 Scenery--Ketchikan PAKT Part 2 In Southern Alaska (AK), USA. This is the second part of Ketchikan, dealing mostly with the airport side water access, but also adding to the airport itself and slightly modifying the docks on the town side, plus other items. There is now a road down from the airport to a ferry dock on the water, with a ferry, and as explained in Part 1 this cannot be as per reality given that the airport, in the real world, is not on one level. The road made here is arranged so that a covered walkway can also be made, connecting down to a float dock, while in reality it connects from the terminal building. The choice is between something missing (the road and walkway) and having something inaccurate, and both choices are not as per reality. This scenery is made to conform to an installation that has FS9, an Alaska Genesis mesh, Ultimate Terrain Alaska Canada, and the three Misty Fjords sceneries installed, and there may be differences when installing to a different setup. The PAKT apron ground markings have been modified as one part was forgotten, and it should be mentioned here that the runway ground markings at the hold shorts are reproduced exactly as per real life, on only one side of the taxiway center line. There is a float dock below the airport for refueling, and also for picking up passengers from the airport and flying them directly to their house on a nearby lake; a taxi rank with Beavers. There is a modification to a small part of the docks on the town side. The AF2_PANT was included in part 1 as this airfield on Annette Island (south of Ketchikan) is shown in Misty Fjords as abandoned while not deleting the FS2004 runways; this deletes them. Another aside, there was somebody on flightsim writing about how to fly a Beaver on floats and there was advice on the use of flaps; I could not find it again to add a note to the advice, but the POH for a Beaver states that full flaps must never be used with floats. Just wondered what I need to remove to remove the runway running down the middle of the channel.

I installed the first version and did not install all the bells and whistles and saw I have a runway where the cruise ships run in the video. I installed the second version and it is still there.

It looks great for me other than the runway.

Did you check that you have ONLY the bgl's that I provided, so that there are no residuals from the previous versions? There was a water runway there that in my version I removed. Email me if you need more discussion.

I will be (actually, I am already) making a further version (#3) that includes more float planes and docks, and, if folks tell me that the road down the hill doesn't work for them (which is the most likely thing to give problems) I will also make version #4 which will be the same as three but without the road. If nobody tells me then........

Thank you, Roger, for another perfect scenery! And the best thing for me ist, that it works quite well without Ultimate Terrain. I just installed it and also found the concrete rwy in the water. Then I noticed on tjhe SkyVector map that PANT does not seem to be closed; so I removed the AF2_PANT.bgl - and now the concrete rwy in the water is also gone!

You mean that you removed the AF2_PANT.bgl from my scenery folder and the concrete runway in the water close to PAKT disappeared? That is weird, as I made the AF2_PANT.bgl to remove the residual runways on Annette Island, and did it by deleting everything and then saving the empty airfield. If you open my AF2_PANT.bgl in AFCAD then you will find........ absolutely nothing, and there was no connection between it and Ketchikan. I had already deleted the runway in the water from the PAKT scenery. OK, I give up, FS9 is strange.

You are right, that would be strange. So i reactivated AF2_PANT and - helas! - the concrete runway has not reappeared. When I deaktivated AF2_PANT I had also changed my installation, so I might have had a wrong sequence in my initial installation, although I don't believe so and don't understand why that should have such an effect.

Anyway, all your sceneries are a great addition to fs9 and almost all of them work without ultimate terrain (probably at the expense of some realism, but if you have never seen the places in real life you probably won't notice). Thank you again - and don't give up!!

Take a look at PANT on Google Earth. You can see where the runways used to be but there is no asphalt visible, water is starting to cover some of the taxiways, and it is for sure closed.
