About This File

FS2004 Scenery--Longstaff CWFS And FOX-2, Nunavut, Canada. Longstaff Bluff is around 50 miles west and a bit north of West Baffin and was built to serve FOX-2, another of the stations in the DEW line that heads west between N68 and N69 latitude. It was an auxiliary station that closed in 1991, a year after a North Warning System automated station was established there in 1990 Both stations are still there, up from the coast on a bit of a hill, and the airfield and beach landing area are down by the sea. The gravel runway is 4300 feet of 110 feet wide gravel, signed as "144T - 324T" as this is Northern Domestic Airspace where all runways are signed "true" and not "magnetic". There is a large hangar and some fuel tanks on the apron and the FOX-2 and NWS stations are at the other end of the road. By Roger Wensley.
