About This File

FSX Scenery--Kai Tak Airport reopened, Hong Kong. VHHX was closed several years ago to give way to the new Hong Kong airport. Kai Tak has one of the world's most famous approaches for airliners. Runway 13 has a 75 degree turn on final that is not for amateurs. This file adds navigational aids ILS and LOC for the airport as well as some eye candy. Does not impact frame rates. By J. D. No it's not a 75%u00B0 turn but a 45-47%u00B0 which is already quite enough! I'll always remember my fear as a passenger the first time I landed there in 1986. You had the impression that someone was trying to take you out of your seat and the view of laundry hanging at balconies of buildings as if you could touch them! What an experience!

Wonderful. I remember the excitement in early September 1962, as my wife and I flew in as passengers in a Bristol Britannia, during the evening. The sight of Hong Kong lit up was stunning. We stayed in Kowloon for two years. For the first year, we lived in a flat in Grampian Road, on the final approach to Kai Tak and aircraft passed over every few minutes, with only 50ft to spare over our roof. They only had 35ft to spare over the last house in the road and before we arrived a washing line was taken off the roof by an aircraft. Washing lines were then banned!!
