About This File
FS2004 Canadair QF-86E, Flight Systems, Inc. A repaint of the F-86F Sabre by Kirk Olsson. It is painted as QF-86E "N55911" (former Royal Canadian Air Force Canadair Sabre 5 "RCAF-202") of Flight Systems, Inc., Mojave Airport, 1980. Flight Systems, Inc. was the main contractor for modifying former Sabre jets into drones for the US military. Very few NA F-86 were actually used in the program, most were ex RCAF and SAAF "Canadair Sabre 5/6". The FSI drone conversion was cheaper than the old drone systems then in use and the aircraft could still be used for manned flight. Most "drone" flights are actually flown with a safety pilot, the exception is of course for actual missile firings. "N55911" was shot down by ADATS on 11th April 1984, but many former FSI "drone" Sabres survived their service and are today flown as civilian warbirds. Repaint by Jens-Ole Kjolberg.
