About This File
FS2004 Italian Air Force Lockheed P-38 / F-5E. The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was one of the most prominent fighters throughout WWII in both major theaters of operation. The L was also the only series to be produced under contract by a different manufacturer than Lockheed. In all, nearly 4,000 P-38L's were made, making it the most numerous variant. Many of these were converted to F-5 Photo Lightnings. The Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare Italiana) received from U.S.A.A.F., after the war's end, several used P-38 in various version (L / J / F-5), but many aircraft were bought as 'metal' from U.S.A.A.F's scraps by A.M.I. and 'heroically' restored in flight condition by Italian technicians. Textures only for a P-38 / F-5E, in 'A.M.I. 3rd Stormo' livery for payware 'Sky Unlimited Lockheed Aircraft P38 Vol. 1'. Repaint by Manuele Villa.
