How To...Repaint CFS Aircraft

Among the many things that Combat Flight Simulator will allow you to do one thing I have just discovered is how to repaint Combat Simulator aircraft, and below I will show you how.

OK, first you need a graphics program that will support a .BMP or Windows bitmap image file. The program that I use in this tutorial is the basic Microsoft paint. Microsoft paint should be installed on your system with windows.

First you should start with something easy and simple. For this example I am editing the rudder of the default P47. Now open your paint program, this should be under start=programs=accessories=paint. Now go to file=open on paint and go to the CFS aircraft directory open the P47 file and then the texture file. There should be a number of .BMP files in the texture directory. The first thing to do is make a copy of every file that you will edit, so you can return the plane to its original look. Click on p47_1.BMP and click on open. It should come up with this:

Now look at the rudder, you need to fill the rudder with white. Use the paint brush to eliminate all the RED and only the red. Once the tail is completely filled with white, fill the tail with whatever color you want. I chose blue, and inserted a star from a clip art collection.

YOU MUST REMEMBER TO DO THE SAME THING ON THE OTHER SIDE OR THE PLANE WILL ONLY HAVE PAINT ON ONE SIDE OF THE RUDDER.

This image is p47_2.bmp also in the texture folder as p47_1.bmp. Now you must save the file back in the texture folder as the same name as it was before. Paint will ask you if it ok to replace the existing file say OK. You can always replace the default file with the one that you copied before you began editing.

After you have accomplished that you can move onto the rest of the fuselage and the wings.
