Can't change the ''background color', of an aircraft ?

Amiga

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm new here, if I'm in the wrong section, please redirect me !

I downloaded this aircraft a few weeks ago :

http://captainherlock.free.fr/misc/arcadia.zip

The problem is that the colors are completely wrong. I repainted all the textures, but there is still some parts that I can't repaint.

Here are some pictures :

I guess it's the default background color. Is it possible to change it ?

(By the way, it is possible to move the turrets, but I tried every single key and it just doesn't works...)

It is possible to have colours that are "hard coded" (for want of a better phrase) into the aircft.mdl file, rather than in texture files. There are two different ways you can change those with Model Converter X, BUT ... only to make a static aircraft, not a flyable one.

Someone else may be able to contradict this.

I tried many .mdl ''viewers'' and they all crash when I try to see the aircraft, for some reason.

I can't seem to find any informations about the guy who created this spaceship, nor where it was first uploaded...

MCX version 1.40 displays the model with no problems and no crashes. The model does indeed have a fair number of hard-coded colours, including the dark blue that you mentioned. So I suspect you are out of luck in changing those.

A search for "Arcadia" on this site finds the model, built by Kazunori Ito, a well-known aircraft builder. Note that this model was designed for FS 2002. He has another model from the same series, too.

So, there is absolutely no way that I can change those hard-coded colors ?...

To my knowledge you would need the original files from which the .mdl was created, edit those, then compile a new .mdl file.

One of my favorite aircraft has the same problem - the wing cutouts for the ailerons are a generic grey, light enough to stick out like a sore thumb on dark finishes and dark enough to show up against light finishes.

Martin Wright (creator of DXTBmp) to the rescue, once again.

You can probably fix this with MDLMat which is listed in the Beta programs here- http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/index.htm

And I quote-

Always make a backup before editing a MDL.

Hey, I downloaded the program, and it just doesn't works with the Arcadia. It works fine with any other aircraft, though.

When I try to load the Arcadia, it always give me the ''No materials found. This may be an old format MDL'' (BTW, I have all the required .dll files for MDLMat)
