Autopilot problem with Keith Paine's chilton_dw1.zip

I installed the Chilton DW1 by Keith Paine (chilton_dw1.zip).

As I like to have a working autopilot in all my aircraft (though many aircraft did not have one in reality), I copied and autopilot entries and the radios entries from the default C172 into its aircraft.cfg--I do that with all a/c that have no AP.

Now the autopilot works, but it will not keep a steady course (on the carrot in the C172 heading indicator I have installed in the 2D PANEL) , but it keeps swaying 30 degrees to the left of the carrot and then 30 degrees to the right of it, and keeps on doing that continuously. I have met the same problem with other a/c in the past too...

Any ideas how I could fix that so I can keep a steady course?

Any help will be appreciated.

Keith Paine's aircraft are excellent and fill in a vacuum in British a/c of the 30's. I strongly advise them and they are excellent for VFR flights too.

Try this, in the aircraft.cfg find...

[direction_indicators]

//1 Type: 0=None, 1=Vacuum Gyro, 2=Electric Gyro, 3=Electro-Mag Slaved Compass, 4=Slaved to another

//2 Indicator number of slaving indicator if Type = 4

direction_indicator.0=0,0

...and change it to....

[direction_indicators]

//1 Type: 0=None, 1=Vacuum Gyro, 2=Electric Gyro, 3=Electro-Mag Slaved Compass, 4=Slaved to another

//2 Indicator number of slaving indicator if Type = 4

direction_indicator.0=1,0

While you are at it...

attitude_indicators]

//Type: 0=None, 1=Vacuum Gyro, 2=Electric Gyro

attitude_indicator.0 = 1

[turn_indicators]

//Type: 0=None, 1=Electric Gyro, 2= Vacuum Gyro

turn_indicator.0=1,0

[vacuum_system]

max_pressure=0

vacuum_type=1 //Type: 0=None, 1=Engine pump (default), 2=Pneumatic, 3=Venturi

This should get you going.

Stingbean,

Your advice worked like a charm--no more swaying.

I often wonder how do you know all this stuff. Do you make aircraft for the sims?

I am so grateful. You have solved a problem that I have seen with other planes--shall fix those too if I ran into them while simming.

Thanks again,

Nick
