Improvements to default FSX aircraft

Hi all,

 

I'm new to FSX and I was wondering if you could suggest to me some good improvements to the default FSX aircraft?

 

For example repaints, bug fixes, FDE updates, higher res VC textures.

 

Do you still fly any of the defualt aircraft or have you moved on a long time ago?

Most default FSX aircraft are very good, but don't forget you can also download many freeware planes to see if you like them better. If you don't like them just delete them and try another, I do it all the time. (But DON'T delete any default planes as they sometimes share bits of the same files and you could mess them all up)

(Tip- the bigger a freeware download file size is, the better quality it usually is. For example anything less than 5Mb might not have much detail, but try them anyway)

Of course, you can also buy payware, it's usually much better quality than most freeware.

 

PS- For example here's my current FSX aircraft selection screen, all the defaults are there, plus a whole bunch of freeware addons, and a couple of paywares.

Note: about half of these addons are FS9/FS2004 aircraft but they work fine in FSX, maybe needing a little tweaking and fixing now and again..:)

For default planes my favorite is cockpitsounds_v2.zip which adds sounds when you flip switches, turn dials etc

Also RealAir put up a freeware FDE for the FS9 Skyhawk which also works well in FSX (I've been using this one for over 10 years):

...and +1 on the cockpit sounds, I like those too.

Thanks! I will check out the sounds, FDE improvements, and VC for sure. I plan on flying the default C172.

 

That's a nice hangar. I did a lot of searching for the best freeware some of the highest quality aircraft are vintage ones.
