evm
Hi @ll, as my billionaire passenger is still on the ExPo in Milan, I had the day off. Or so I thought, until his son showed up, requesting a lift to Genova to embark on his new yacht. OK, says me, I've flown a DC-9 in and out of Sestri a couple of times and the weather seems resonable. Low clouds over Liguria, so probably an ILS approach into Sestri. As the hop is too short for the Phenom, we chartered a Duke Turbine - stylish enough for him I guess. Filed a quick flightplan (SRN - VOG - GEN) and off we went Taxiing across the whole of LIME to runway 28 was a pain... Number two for departure... ...and off we go Weather is rather nice in climb and cruise (short enough at 16.000ft)
evm
Part 2... Approaching Liguria, the low clouds in the hilly countryside become evident. Handed off to the Approach controller, who sends me east for a while. 'Heron 2506, descend to FL 60'. Uh, really? OK then... Not that I dislike the view, but isn't this a tad low? UhOh. I'm pretty sure there was a mountain dead ahead. Should be about time Approach vectored us out over the sea (south) 'Heron 2506, turn right to 195'... Ah, finally. 'and descend to altitude 5000 feet' WHAT? 'Uh, Sestri Approach, Heron 2506 request confirmation 5000 feet'.... ...'Never mind' (screenshot taken after the fact. With that visibility I had about 0.2 seconds to react to the hillside in front of me). evm
BTW, the minimum safe altitude is 8600 in this area. Too bad that RC4 didn't care/know about that. (???)
