stallbuddy
Hi...Am going crazy with this problem. Purchased a new gaming computer mainly to play my beloved FSX. I installed as recommended in the proper order FSX...ran fine....then with SP1....ran fine....then installed SP2 which crashed the program at the start screen. If I unistall SP2 it works fine! Install again and it doe snot work. I tried again this time with acceleration instead of the service packs...same problem, I guess because SP2 is included in it. At the moment the game is running well with just SP1, but I really want to run with SP2. I also installed the steam edition to try that out afterwards.....it doesnot run and crashes at the splash screen...again I presume because it includes SP2 or acceleration in it's code. I have a clean install of windows 7 64bit. Computer specs are i7 processor, Nvidia geforce 970 4GB graphics and 16GB of RAM. This system works really great with Train Sim 2015 and Euro truck simulator...great performance with both and FSX without SP2 works really well......any advice much appreciated, Best wishes.... mjrhealth
Just install FSX,clean, run it, than install acceleration, there are a lot of new payware and freeware that require acceleration as it adds a few features that SP2 doesnt have. Also make sure you install DX9C, its avaliable on the web. Windows will only show latest version installed and although they are backward compatible, so they say. it does have its issues. il88pp
yes. Uninstall evrything. So no fsx left in "windows - start configuration panel - remove programs" menu. Then reinstall. First fsx deluxe, and activate. Then acceleration, activate that. No service packs. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
stallbuddy
Hi Guys...thanks for replying. Have done exactly as you say regarding the installation...installed everything in the right order and run the program in between installs of the service packs and restarted the computer, so I know I am not doing anything wrong there. This problem does exist on the web for a very few who can't get SP2 or acceleration to work, but I have never seen an answer for it.....will look into the DX9C later on....I have the latest version installed I guess because my other games run really well...thanks again.. pvarn
Read the sticky at the top of the FSX forum: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?270280-A-note-to-those-creating-threads-regarding-FSX-crashes You'll find at the top instructions for accessing the Event Viewer.
