Creating a flight video for upload to utube

Recommended Posts

I'm using Frapps to create a FSX flight video.

I'm compressing that video to mpeg format for upload to utube.

Problem, I can upload to utube then utube customises it and the result is a sketchy grainy video unsuitable to be seen.

Have you created videos using Frapps and if so, what did you do to allow upload to utube for a crisp looking video .

If you have done this, are you able to itemise each procedure and associated settings to follow to allow uplode to utube.

Yes. The thing is, don't use HALF SIZE in Fraps settings. Point number 1. Point number 2, whatever the video size may be, 5 GB or 25 GB, that is the HD resolution and you need to maintain that resolution if you want a 720p version of it in YouTube. 3rd is, we usually edit it. We corp parts. We add music. We delete parts and so on. Some add effects which I personally don't do. If you don't have a good video editor yet, go for VSDC Video Editor, it's a professional editor, just be careful while installing as they will request you to install many things which are adware. But the software itself is payware quality. While starting it, select the hugest resolution workspace and start editing / deleting parts and so on. Then export it as .AVI, and upload to YouTube to maintain the resolution as 1080p or 720p. If the file is too big, download Format Factory and change the resolution to a lower one and export it as MP4. You can export as .AVI to maintain 1080p from VSDC, or you can decrease and make it 720p, by using Format Factory and making it MP4. Both are fine for YouTube.

People that don't have Vegas video editing program will use Windows Movie Maker. WMMaker will convert your AVI to WMV, which reduces file size, and then for best res tell WMMaker to 'save to my computer' as 'high quality large'. This is what I use. Videos will be 480p, which is good video quality/res, considering you are not using 'professional' programs. But, when you go watch the video on YouTube you MUST set the res. The default choice is 'auto', but that usually means youtube will play it at '126p'. There is a round gear shaped icon on bottom right which you click to MANUALLY set for '480p' play back res.

How well Fraps works (ie: not Half Size) will depend on you PC specs AND set up (ie: make sure your desktop and your monitor res are the same). Use the monitor 'native' res to determine the desktop res (ie: 1600 x 1024 x 32). Before recording videos, lock your FSX fps to 30 fps. This will eliminate any pauses or jerking (skipped frames). Of course the specs of your video card and drivers play a role in all of this. If you can run FSX at a STEADY 30 fps then your Fraps videos will turn out 'good'.
